Title: FC ABS problem
Post by: TiddlesRX7 on June 02, 2010, 07:17:36 PM
I\'ve been having trouble with my ABS kicking in at low speeds for a while now. I\'ve check everything as best I can and it all checks out ok. Trouble is I have a track day next week so I really could do with it sorting. Now as far as I can think I have two options.
1/ try and find/fix the problem.
2/ Remove the ABS ready for the track day.

Now I have changed the pads and Im gonna bleed the system and put fresh fluid in at the weekend. Hopefully this will help. I did blead the system when the problem first started and it has helpped. So question is which option is easiest?
Can I just remove the ABS ecu and drive the car like that for now untill I can remove it all together? Does anyone have a guide to removing the ABS on a FC?

All help welcomed

Ade.

Have you checked the crown on the hub . Sometimes they crack and it causes the symptoms you describe. Had a lot of cars with that problem this year.

No point in removing the ECU, just drive it as it is as it will still work the brakes but not with ABS. You can fool the MOT tester by a bit of trickery. All you do is take the ABS bulb out of the instrument cluster and then put some tape over the contacts. Then just hard wire a bulb into the ABS hole from a source such as ignition light. ABS light will always go on and off with ignition light but mimicks a self test and goes out which is what the MOT tester wants to see (or not)

I had a good look at them this weekend just gone. I didn\'t notice any cracks. I could have missed it though if it was small. The rears were quite rusty so cleaned them up with a wire brush. The fronts were quite good actually still quite square teeth but the rears weren\'t as good.

Pete the problem is that the ABS is kicking in at low speeds. Like when you dip the clutch to come to a stop at a junction. So if I remove the ecu it should stop it kicking in but still work the brakes. What do you think? Just I don\'t want it doing it on track at all.

Just take the fuse out or the relays, electrically in safe mode but will still work mechanically.

Good oh I\'ll give it a try. Unfortunately its MOT time this month too so I will have to sort it one way or another for then.

Just do the bulb trick as stated above and it will pass the MOT
