Title: Noob question
Post by: phat purple one on June 01, 2010, 03:42:33 PM
Hi all,

Have just bought an RX-7 for what i thought was a good price, due to it being stood up for around 2 years. It had a mazda rotary club tax disc holder in it so I thought i\'d come here for help. Possibly ex owner might be known?

Put it straight in for an MOT and only failed on 2 tyres, fog light and emissions. First two have been sorted but i\'m struggling to work out the emissions as they are well over the top, making my eyes water while on tick over

It has an Apexi power FC, s/s exhaust and twin Apexi air filters and tryed resetting to factory defaults but did not change anything I was wondering if some one had any idea\'s or has a similar set up could send me what reading\'s they get on the commander while on tick over I.e input output check list and the important inputs from the monitor section

Sorry about the long post thanks in advance!

If I were you I\'d pop it along to RE-Worx in Portsmouth they can sort anything out that you may require.

Yeah, emissions are a nightmare on these things. You can \'cheat\' your way through the emissions by playing with the injector duty settings.

If you have the Commander (hand controller) for the PFC then you can sort it yourself with settings easily available, if not best bet is to get yourself to the nearest rotary specialist and get them to do it!

As far as resetting the PFC to factory defaults, be wary that if you erase the existing map then Rexy will likely run like a bag of spanners as well as potentially break something. At the least you\'d be looking at a >£200 bill for a remap session. Admittedly this is more of a problem for highly tuned cars but just a word of warning!!!

Here she is, bought in Eastleigh! Bit late for the PFC back to default me dad already reset it. Anything I can try without having to remortgage the house!!! :2Rolleyes:2Rolleyes

for starters, make sure the mot tester carries out a bet test(basic enmissions) its the type of mot that should be carried out for the rex

Well I\'m good mate\'s with the MOT tester so he did what he could other than put the probe up another car\'s exhaust. But we\'re still talking over 20 times the limit on unburnt fuel. Will have to post a pic of the emmisions test for you all!

ok, if you need help passing emmisions its easy.

I recently had my car MOTd and this is what i did

\'Turns up, sticks a pipe up its bum and comes out with 7% CO and 3500ppm  HC

now thats a failing straight away, so i just sat there, went to PIM  voltage, down to 1000rpm and turned it from 100% down to 66%

CO came down to 0.9% and HC came down to 985-1000ppm so its a pass.

then finished the MOT, passed it, turned the fueling back up and drove  home.

Seemed really simple to me and was a 5second adjustment, is it just  because noone knows about changing the fueling for MOT that causes all  these problems or am i missing something?\'
