Title: General info about buying a FD
Post by: topham on May 25, 2010, 10:03:10 PM
hi guys, there aint really a section to post a newbie welcome, so hi im me :mmmm

im looking at buying an rx7, heard so many ups and downs with them, and was going to just be having it for a weekend toy, not really into tracking it etc

no i have a burning question

would you buy an RX7 FD without having a proper compression check done, and would you pay over the odds for it to start with

i have seen one i want, but just its proving to be a problem with getting a compression check done

advise would be greatly appreciated

i definately would not pay for one without a comp test. Afterall if the engine is on the way out you can easily add another 3 plus k onto the price of the car for a rebuild.

i am not saying the bloke who selling it is trying to have me over and he does seem genuine enough, just the fact that if its got comp figures of 6 etc then it will still drive but as u say, it will still need a rebuild etc

really stuck at a loose end as what to do and the summer days are going by

looks a nice car but as u say, no history of rebuild means to cover ur back u prob should get it tested - its also very far from u so long way to go to turnaround empty handed. are there no cars closer to u that fit the bill?

no not really, there was one in london, but again, allot of people have cars that have had rebuilds in japan, with no evidence or receipts to back it up

plus this one looked one of the cleanest i could see

just this compression testing...........its like a big gamble

and yes a really long way to come back empty handed
