Title: fc\'s with fd alternators
Post by: monterx7 on May 24, 2010, 09:02:58 AM
i have a fd alternator on my uk fc with a dual belt pulley on it.  yesterday i went to halfords and bought 2 belts.  when i went to try to install them i found out they are way too short.  holding the belt in place on the crank and water pump, the belt comes up to nut on the middle of the pulley.  has anyone else run into this problem?  i was going to buy longer belts but also noticed they dont have the length size on them.  i guess i could measure what i need then measure belts at the store until i find one.  but before i do that just wanted to see if someone else had this issue and maybe know what belt i need.

thanx again for any help

I just went to our local motor factors (partco) and they had them on the shelf. Think they were about £2.50 each. Not sure of the part number but just ask them for an alternator belt and their computer will do the rest.

the belt i got does not fit.  halfords looked it up in the computer for me and i got what it said to get.  but its just not long enough.  just dont sure its because of the pulley i have.

Do you know if whoever changed the alternator properly also changed the water pump to an FD waterpump to work with the alternator? Or did they just bolt an FD alternator on?

i was the one that changed the alt...no need to change the water pump just use a dual belt pulley on the alt.  i\'ve used this setup for years.

I\'d just not bother with Halfrauds TBH. Go to an independant motor factors thats my advice. Halfrauds is full of school kits with not much know how of anything let alone a rotary engine! Atleast my local one is.

I will have a look at whats fitted to mine. I got both of mine from Halfords, just stood there for ages measuring them up til I found the one I wanted.

Could you not use some string or wire to measure what is on there at the mo? Or even take a belt off etc
