Title: Downpipe Fitting
Post by: bobster on May 19, 2004, 12:05:58 AM
Just wondering if anyone has changed their DP and how they did it. I was told today by the garage that are going to be fitting my HKS DownPipe that the engine has to come out in order to get in at the studs.

Is it possible to do it with the engine still properly mounted in the car?

Yes, it is possible. Just changed the pipe on my car. You habe to be carefull loosening some nuts, but it\'s strait job. They is no need to remove the engine !

Even if the studs break when un-doing the OE downpipe there is no need to remove the engine, just the turbo pack.

They will need to loosen/remove the steering column, but thats about it.

PS. its a real pig of a job to do.

A bit confusing Bob  as Marc told me they could do the downpipe with the engine in the car - as everyone else has said.

Hopefully he didn\'t mean right out of the car. I just thought that it sounded like overkill.
I was looking at doing it myself if he couldn\'t fit me in before rotorstock. But the engine out thing scared me:eek:

Had a chat with Geff and the consensus is to leave it till after RotorStock because they can be a total bitch to change if the studs snap. He did give me a few top tips to make it a bit easier.

I think the garage were just being cautious, as lifting the engine would be the easier way to change the DP.

If I fit it myself at a later date then I will do a How To write up.
