any idea how much these cost?
NKK Plate cost me £47.50 in 1996 if that\'s any use. (Probably isn\'t).
Gus\'s clutch was worn out at 13,000 miles because he\'d stood for so long before roadgoing. I figure the flywheel had pitted or something like that.
Anyway it\'s the only clutch I\'ve had go since the 1960\'s so it isn\'t me or the Missus...(slap her wrists if she\'s not perfect with the pedals).
Purpose of this long ramble is to say NKK clutches seem to be good and long lasting for street use.

Me thinks Dave was doing dougnuts late at night at his local mcdonalds!:Giggle
ta stu
What!.........Doughnuts wiv our Gus....Never, Never.
Things that went due to seven and half years under wraps were:
New Battery at 0 miles (Dealer).
Front disc skim (warranty) at 1,500 miles
Fuel filter clogged at 7,500 miles.
Back Pads worn right down (due to pitting on discs) at 9,000
4 tyres on ground (not spare) - tread cracks at 10,000
Clutch at 13,000 as above
1 rear shock seized up at 25,000 (changed both).
Everything else has either been totally reliable or dropped into normal failure rates. That\'s why I think these engines will take storage with little problem.
Sorry Ian, you were asking something?

I\'ve forgotten now!!
When you bought your car Dave, did the dealer give you full warranty as it would have done if you\'d have bought the car when it first came off the boat in 1986?
Or did they give a limited warranty as it was effectively \'New old Stock\' ( not wanting to disparage your lovely car in any way, it just crossed my mind)
\'New old Stock\' exactly. The warranty was limited and purchased from a 3rd party as we bought the car. One reason for this was that we are about 160 miles away from Barnet and it wasn\'t thought that other dealers would treat faults under new car warranty.
I think it was an RAC product but can\'t remember exactly who it was.
After 2 years it expired but we\'d only done about 6,000 miles by then.
The car was £10,100 with the warranty in 1993, about the price of an upmarket spec Escort Ghia at the time.
We bought it to replace my wife\'s identical Silver S3 (which in turn followed a Renaissance Red S2). We both still think it was one of those magic oportunities that happen so rarely in life.
Dibs had 1st dibs before us, so we\'ve found out on here but he wanted Red not Silver!!!!!
Red rules ..........................lol

Hi Jon,
FB Series 3 Clutch is deffo 225mm Diameter. Measured my old one. (Why else would you keep a worn out clutch plate for years except to measure it)?
I think the uprating took place between S1 and S2 because there were some failures on the early cars, but this is only a memory from way back.
Hi Dave,
Thanks for that :)
Will a 1983 series 2 have the same 225mm clutch you think? I have just collected one (TCV 63Y hint hint ;) ) and the clutch release is gone.
Also, are they small or large axle? I\'m looking to import an lsd from america-land.
Honestly don\'t know Jon, I can really only say for certain the S3 clutch is 225mm.
The axle are certainly different between S2 and S3 on UK cars....the half shafts are splined differently for one thing. Any import you get needs to have the right splines.
Thanks for the heads up about TCV....moved it to you this morning. Am I brilliant or what?
no worries, just thought I\'d ask :)
