Seeing as I have pretty much decided I would like a bit more power than the EGI is capable of (without a lot of engine work), and that the easiest way (aside from buying a TII) to do this is by putting a turbo engine in the EGI, I have come across an 88 TII cab just down the road from me. Im not really into convertibles so am looking at this as a donor car to be honest. The car hasn\'t been driven for a year but does start apparently. Engine has 76k on it, and looks in fairly good condition from the pictures (obviously might not be so good in the flesh).
Anyway what do you reckon this would be worth? and if I was to go for it do you think I would get much back by breaking the rest of the car?
Also would I be able to just take the engine and other required parts, and use a manual gearbox from my current EGI?
Thanks
Mark
Hi. I have recently done this. I put a series 5 TII engine in a series 4 shell. You will need all the TII running gear. Wiring to. I thought the series 4 body loom would be the same but I was wrong. I used a body loom out of a series 5 cab. There is a few parts different like the sunroof and other little bits but they can be easily wired in. I think you should look for 89+ for the series 5 engine. Not sure on about using the manual gearbox. Im guessing 500 600 pounds as its auto and series 4.
Depending on the colour and price I might be interested in the cab\'s bonnet.
you\'d need another gear box, with that you\'d need the right driveshaft\'s and diff etc. Not sure how the auto driveline works with the manual one. also if its an 88, it\'ll be a s4 like your egi which is about 170bhp at stock i think, maybe less. Where turning is concerned, if you put any type of free flowing exhuast on it you\'ll need to heavily port the waste gate.
imo the easiest bet is to buy a TII. and then move all the bits over to the best shell.
Though it would be nice to see a different conversion, im under the impression that the s4 turbo\'s are inferior in quite a few ways to the s5\'s. tbh its quite a lot of work for an engine that may or may not be in good condition, do you plan to rebuild it whilst it\'s out?
always interest in breaking fc\'s.

lol, that was the other bit I was looking to keep :)
Thanks

Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like there are too many things to consider with this one (gearbox etc), and I believe the guy is looking for £1200 minimum anyway, so I will probably be better off leaving it.
Shame as the car looks in good condition (apart from tear in roof). I might take a look anyway, just to satisfy my curiosity.
If I was to get an engine I would probably look at getting it rebuilt before it went in anyway.
Thanks again
Mark
For what its worth I actually did the conversion from S4 turbo to S5 turbo and that was a pain as it was a total re-loom front to back. Interior needs to be totally stripped out, dash the lot.
To go from EGI to TII then so much has to be done to make the car reliable for that extra power, the drivetrain being one of them to name just a few of them. For the cost of buying a donar car that money can be spent on your present car to gain a few more horses, a few decent mods to the exhaust and intake can make a conciderable difference. I would definately go for a S5 donar car for spares availablity if nothing else as the S4 turbo cars are quite rare to find.
i wouldnt bother with the hassle of swapping the engine if its done 76k
its gonna be due a rebuild very soon

Thats not strickly true now is it? Im not saying it wont need a rebuild but I have seen these engines run over 120k without a rebuild. It all depends on how its been look after really.

Whys that? mines on 86k and has 7.2s on the front rotors, 6.9s on the rear rotors. Plus being a series 4 engine that cab will have the low compression rotors that are good for boosting :)
But yes I agree with pete on this one, if the looms and everything was a straight swap then yes, but as they are different, probably not the best idea. I got my turbo II for £1600 3 years ago :)
Thanks for the help guys. I have emailed the guy to say that I am going to leave it. Also enquired about breaking it (as I would like the bonnet), but I don\'t think he\'s interested.
Here is the link to it, just in case anyone else was interested.
