Title: Induction kit options, what to go for?
Post by: Donato on May 18, 2004, 10:16:06 AM
I have an ARC which im told isnt the best, it is proving difficult to get filters for so....

What are the various options for replacing my induction kit for a twin turbo, greddy, apexi etc etc...?

What do you have and what do you think i should go for?

(pictures would be handy too!!)

Thanks

Donato

worth noting you should take into account cooling and ducting with aftermarket filters

I am starting to think the stock set up is more efficient than my Apexi, I need some shielding

The ARC box that i currently have is ducted and does provide good heat protection, its near enough the same shape as the stock. In fact it uses the stock mounting points. Made out of Aluminium...

Thanks Dave! Now i really don\'t know what to do!! ;) How is your one running now that you have run it in? Looking forward to seeing it at rotorstock.

I\'ve yet to find anyone supplying a heat shield for the Apexi twin filter set up, anyone ?
I\'ve found ducting amazing difficult to get through my front bumper etc, when the car is resprayed I will probably get some vents cut

The engine is fantastic, its being mapped at Abbey on Thursday
so I can\'t push it at all at the moment until thats all done

Unfortunately it won\'t be resprayed in time for Rotorstock :(

Geff @ Reworx is getting me a price for the ARC filters, will see what its going to cost before i consider the apexi.

I would have liked to have got mine resprayed before rotorstock, due to the damage jealous idiots have done to it, but im wanting to get it done right, starting with replacing the front bumper as my one is tatty, taking all the bodykit off and replacing the rivets holding them on with better ones as the rivets on it are starting to come out and hopefully blending it all in.

By the end of the summer all going well i should have it resprayed with a newly refurbished interior too!

Anyone got a picture of the Apexi induction setup, interested to see it...

Cheers

Donata,

Please ditch the arc induction kit.
You can get any kit just make sure it has suitable heat shield if not make one up.

Hi Brian,

Im thinking of doing just that!

Everyone seems to think the same thing. What is it about the ARC that is bad..?

Cheers

How is ARC worse than any other kit? cant see the logic as to why myself...

The lower filter sits directly over the rad, and the aluminium is so susceptible  to heat soak it\'s mad!

If staying with stocks turbos and intercooler i\'d go GruppeM all the way.

MintyFresh has just installed his kit  here (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6017)

IIRC it\'s about £450

sorry £450 for a bit of plastic is pretty excessive

but each to their own, it looks nice I suppose  :)

hand layed carbon fibre :p keeps heat soak to a minimum I guess the price is dictated by the bulk of their target market - Fezza owners;)

Wow that\'s a cheap respray:bandit

I did a fair bit of testing with different airfilters for my old 5GTT and putting the standard airbox back on gave a fair amount more torque lower down than any induction kit did and nowadays a lot of people in the GTT community running big power have gone back to using an OE airbox with K&N replacement filter, i mean at the end of the day many millions had probably been spent designing the thing in the first place, at a compromise maybe, but it is definitely better than sucking in hot air. Induction kits can definitely flow better at higher rpm due to less restrictions etc, but you really have to have a very good flow of cold air to the filter. So the GruppeM is definitely the best of both worlds and is probably worth the premium, maybe, ;)

Has anyone tried the Racing Beat cold air intake thingummy - I\'m thinking of getting one but i would be interested if anyone has any feedback on it.

cheers

the GruppeM is awesome :D

Looks good, sounds good, and does its job even better.   It was a shame about the price, but you dont see many carbon fibre air boxes with  a near direct feed from the bumper.  I love mine.
