Been thinking - Yeah I know it\'s dangerous!! But I see quite a few cars these days with no front fogs, how they pass their MOTs?? Do you only need rear fogs only or both? Whats the actual legislation for fogs on a car or more importantly an import Rex (92 if applicable).
As ideally I\'d like to remove the front fogs and not have to bother wiring up the rear brake light for the benefit of the MOT tester.
I can\'t remeber seeing a thread on this and thought the wise Jedi could advise us on the way of the force! :p
Cheers
Ben :D
You only need a rear fog light.
Ok thats all I needed to know!!
Apart from... seen a Faq for wiring up the rear centre brake light as a Fog? (That\'ll pass I assume).
Cheers
Ben
Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations \'89
Max. height for lamp 1000mm
Min. height 250mm
Preferred on Centre line or offside
If not in the same body as the lights the lamp must be 100mm away No requirement for size or wattage The lamp must be switchable independently of the brakes.
The only two requirements if you have front fogs is that they are not cracked and that you have a light to let you know when they are turned on.
The reality is modern front fog lights are useless as your headlamps will negate any benefit from the front lights in the event of heavy fog. Most people jsut use them as kev lights (sorry driving lights).
and they must only operate on side and dip beam (ie. they go out with main beam) and they must not be mounted over a certain height.
anything other than that and they are driving lights and they MUST only switch on with main beam ... people driving about with them on 24/7 is one of my pet hates ... the police should pull them over and make some easy money !
