Taking photos of my red 1st gen tonight to advertise it made me realise how much I really don\'t want to sell it!
I\'m going to do a mpg test on it to see what the consumption is.
I\'ve undone the tank drain plug and drained the tank ( not a spec of rust which is great news) and I measured the contents of the tank.
This was 5 litres.
I then reset the trip and put the fuel back in, followed by another 35 litres at the local garage.
I now know for definite that the tank contains 40 litres....

and I\'m going to run it until it misfires through lack of fuel.
I\'m going to drive it sensibly within the speed limits and not thrash it.
How many miles do you reckon I\'ll do on 40 litres if I can keep off those secondaries?
Can it return a mpg I can live with?
Can i ask why you would be bothered to do this test.
There was a kiwi clown on E_X_I_L_E who was going on about his .... box rx3 and his mpg..
but seriously its a rotary and if you want them to go good your fuel consumption is the least of your worry!!

Ian
The 1st tank of fuel I used, I did 13.5 miles to the gal.
The 2nd I got 14.4 mpg.
I filled up before the trip to Brooklands drove some 110 miles there and back on
the M25 at speeds up to 80 mph and not realy hanging about and filled up when I
got back and recorded 21.5 mpg.
The first two tanks included no long trips, therefore me thinks if you take it steady on motorways 25mpg could be achieved.
Dibs
Bloody hell Dibs, 13.5 mpg, that\'s V12 E-type territory!
Was that on your new carb and before you changed the fan?
Less than 15 mpg is dreadful for a standard n/a car.
Yes I\'m sure the fan had alot to do with it, but then again I had not driven the thing
for over 11 years and those lanes near where I live are to tempting.
i just fill mine up ok as its a second car i can use it when i like but mine does about 250 / 300 to a tank full

Fuel consumption is my main worry at the moment. I\'m doing plenty of miles each day and fuel is going up day on day. My daily driver is a 4 litre V8 and I put £150 in it last week and not much less the week before. I\'m not going to sell it so I need to reduce the miles I\'m putting on it so I need to use a more economical 2nd car as a daily hack. If the Rx7 doesn\'t fit the bill, it will be sold or stored and I\'ll get something else.
well in a FB i think its about £55 to fill them up..
I did from wgt to almost the M25 on 3/4 of a tank on a run in tune map but thats a 12a half bridge turbo and its injected.
If you worried about your bill then inject it and you should be able to get a bit more response and mileage out of the 12a..

204.54 miles on 40 litres would be distance at my average over 20 months (23.27 mpg). I use a fair bit of V Power, BP Ultimate and similar.
So anything within 180/210 miles would be OK for me.
we ought to have a sweep to guess the mileage!
Ian if you want fuel economy it is possible, rotary shack in the states have a single weber conversion that can deliver 30miles per US gallon so aprox 35mp Imp gallon. if you can hold for your red rotor then they are also in development of one which actually will deliver 40 miles per US gallon so again aprox 46 miles per Imp gallon.
theres one second hand on ebay somewhere for about $200(or $350 new) i\'ve got a mate who\'s going out on business soon and is going to pick up a LSD assembly for me and send it on to help avoid massive tax costs and air postage costs.
let me know if you\'d be interested in one of these carbs as you can have it delivered to a business contact\'s address of mine at his CA address and then my mate can send it direct from there if you want.
on a personal note who wouldn\'t want better fuel economy with increased low end power and responce and such??
cheers
mick
54.4 miles urban driving this morning with a very light foot, not once taken over 4000 revs...

.
My Blue Mk. II, on a mix of hill, city, and some 60mph road, arrive at 8km/l.
The Balck with 13B engine and Holley, much more, at 90mph street, can done also 10/11km/l. Something less on the same course of the Blue.
I see about 18 using the car everyday. I get better on motorway trips.
This is with LPG (lower scotch level) and I don\'t really drive to softly. Still carbed and 6 port 13b.
I have even been asking if I can afford to run the FB as a daily driver on LPG. Its up to 63p in some places. Petrol was only 75p when I swapped from it and LPG was 33.5p. Although I\'m not sure what I could swap to. I would need a 40mpg diesel or another petrol that was lpg. Prices are just bonkers !

That\'s interesting Shaun and surprising. I thought it went further on gas, I don\'t know why I had that impression. I see the saving is on the cost of the lpg.
Having said that, you are running a bigger engine.
175 miles so far on my 40 litres ( or 8.79 gallons )... it\'s looking grim now though...just into the red.
by the way that was when i was stock, i would say now about 150 a tank full :D

finally ran out of fuel at 198.8 miles.... was doing 22.61mpg...not too bad.
Ian does that mean its a gonna or goer ? ................22/23 is that better than the Jag.
not really, I was driving the Mazda with a very light foot, never took it over 4000 revs.
The Jag usually does 21.9 around town driving normally although at the moment it needs an oxygen sensor and it\'s dropped to 18.9.
It\'s up for a mot soon so I\'ll get it on the diagnostic and sort it out.
you would imagine that a 12a rotary would be more econonical than a blown 4 litre V8 wouldn\'t you?
I don\'t really want to sell the 1st gen but I might be forced into it.
A bit of good news though is that my work mileage will drop significantly after next week until September so that might take the pressure off a bit.
We\'ll see what happens...
I would of thought 20 > 23mpg was about right.
I though have done much better,a gallon has lasted me over a year, though i can\'t work out the mpg going up & down my drive!!!
I brimmed the tank before setting off for Japfest...and did the same in the shell station just off the M4.
Can\'t remember the exact figures now, but it was 152miles on 23 litres of fuel, or something like that...I worked it out at the time to be 29.6mpg - that was with a pretty light foot, we were in no rush so sat at 70 on the motorways...and I got stuck in a bit of traffic...and played with a celica off a roundabout once ;)
I was very impressed, never thought I\'d see the best part of 30mpg from the old girl :)
last time i did this was in my first elford turbo and i used to get about 27 mpg at abou 80-85 on motorways.it was way more economical than any of the 3 na cars i had owned
