I use the cheapest oil I can find.
I think the main thing is to keep the inside of the engine clean and as generally 1st gen 12a\'s aren\'t particularly high performance engines and I don\'t do loads of miles or continuous high speed driving in it, I can\'t see the point in wasting money on expensive high performance oil that\'s only going to get burnt off anyway.
Cheapo oil is going to be good enough to cope with the demands of my 12a engine and stay in grade enough and I change it every 2000 miles for fresh clean oil.

If I was running forced induction or a ported engine then I would use something a bit better but for the standard engine.....no

Keep it clean, change it often, never had any problems with this philosophy up to yet.

My XJR takes 8 litres and only uses fully synthetic..... it grieves me everytime I have to change it or even top it up.

I only use mineral oils like Duckhams or GTX.
Synthetics are rumoured to leave deposits behind on the tip seals as it burns in the fuel mix. I say rumoured \'cos there\'s different schools of thought and some oil experts say nonsense. But changing the oil for cheaper mineral oil at 3000 mile intervals has always worked for me.

Also I think Mazda said use mineral oil in the 12A
