Title: Recommended Rolling Road tuners?
Post by: Roundabout-Now on May 16, 2004, 09:52:37 PM
Who do you recommend for a rolling road setup? I need to get some mapping done for higher boost. Do all good RRs have lambda sensors and similar?

Any recommendations, or anyone on here want to set up the Panther for me :D

Somewhere near Manchester is better, but will travel for quality.

Was considering the RR in at Well Lane (Leeds), although they said that they don\'t tune RXs when I asked (didn\'t give them all the details on the car though - don\'t know if the fact that it had a Motec would make them more or less likely to touch it :p )

Was going to get Pip to sort things out, but he\'s really busy (as usual), so doubt it would be done by Rotorstock.

Wait for Pip, too dangerous to let some one else who\'s not savvy with a rotor have a go imho...

Good luck!

As above.......
Dont let anybody touch your car who doesnt have experience tuning you motec.  Way too risky especially if your tuning for higher boost.  Some of the Apexi tuners, will do it on the road with a laptop and wideband lambda sensor.  With great results.  Ross and Jaydee ran 11.6 yesterday at SCR.  I thinks its better this way as you dont drive your car on rollers, you drive it on the road. Might be worth a try as you wont have to try and find a tuner and a rolling road available on the same day.

It\'s also a bit dangerous as Ross/Jason have recently implied. Geff used to tune on the road but in the end decided it was too risky. Now its all on the dyno, sure - fine tune for drivability on the road, but dont risk your and others lives tuning balls out on the road.

Each to their own but having some one flog the nuts off my car on public roads tuning it isnt my cup of tea. Nor is meeting some one doing the same coming the other way!

OK, rant over. Seen a couple of big crashes on the roads recently and it makes you think. Like I said though - each to their own, dont jump down my throat, esp all those DIY datalogit tuners out their...

20b boy,  dont worry, i know exactly what you mean, these cars are sooo fast now and the rr is the safest place.  I was suggesting this as an option so he could get it to R/Stock. It would be a shame if the pink panther isnt at its best. It should woop some ass running 1 bar!

I was looking at somewhere like Powerstation (//www.powerstation.org.uk), as they advertise that they setup Motecs, seem to work with a lot of race setups, and have even fitted a Motec launch control system. Any opinions or experience of their work?

Maybe I\'m just being impatient, but its not long till rotorstock and I don\'t seem to have got very far with the work I wanted done. Last time it was at WGT the ABS got sorted, but that wasn\'t really a priority - it had gone in in the hopes that some of the other things were going to be done - launch control (which hadn\'t turned up) and chip tuning/settings check (not done yet). It was going to have water injection instead when I found out that the LC hadn\'t arrived, but that was out of stock as well.

Don\'t get me wrong - Pips work is top-notch. It just strikes me that he\'s so busy that he just doesn\'t have time for speciality stuff (which popular opinion says is his forte). I\'m still waiting for new spark plugs off him from what feels like ages ago. He\'s just always busy. I phoned on Friday just to see if they were in, got told I\'d get a call back (which I didn\'t), so that stopped me from ordering from somewhere else - I hate to ask for an item and then turn around and say I got it from somewhere else - until tomorrow when hopefully I can find out if they are in. I know that other sources have 10.5s in stock.

As I said before - don\'t get me wrong about Pip, it just feels like I\'m a victim of his success

Thanks for taking it how it was meant Ant :)

I hope the car does get there - and in fine fettle, definitely one i\'m looking forward to having a poke about at :D

I know the guys at Powerstation, and they are a great bunch. But if you\'re coming allthe way from Manchester, I would go to Abbey Motorsport as they have had a lot more to do with mapping rotary powered cars than PS.

Just my 2p worth.

Used to being sliced in 2? surely that\'s not possible? ;)

I\'ve migrated over to the RR tuning opinion, road was fine when it could be done in 3rd gear, but once the car is doing 30-100 in single figures 4th becomes a necessity.  Unless you\'ve got a friendly police officer it becomes a very risk pastime, even if you can find an appropriate area of tarmac.  Having said that a bit of disused air field can provide the road benefits without the risks, assuming you can find one.

They\'ve learn to dive for cover by now I imagine, \'cause he\'s either:

a) driving a low FD doing mach 1
b) brandishing his rat gun, or
c) brandishing his shotgun

Furry creatures beware...
