well i started her this mornin and it was on choke like an ideot some one shouted me and i turned it off whilst on choke bad bad mistake how do you get around a flooded rx7? please help me info would be much apreciated guys cheers in advance :eek:
give it a tow start mate if not take plugs out and dry them, take out fuel pump fuse and turn over engine a few times, replace fuse and put a little 2 stroke oil in each bottom plug holes, replace plugs and give it a start. It will smoke and splutter for a min or 2 but will clear.
As above.. Not nice thing to do, But it will work...
1. Remove the fuel injector/fuel pump fuse
2. Turn your ignition. It\'ll rev for a few seconds and then stop. Wait a minute, then turn it again. (don\'t turn and hold longer than 10seconds, it\'ll drain the battery).
3. Put the fuel injector fuse back
4. Turn on the ignition. The car should now start.
QuoteA flooded engine is an internal combustion engine that has been fed an excessively rich air-fuel mixture that cannot be ignited. This is caused by the mixture exceeding the upper explosive limit for the particular fuel. An engine in this condition will not start until the excessively rich mixture has been cleared. It is also possible for an engine to stall from a running state due to this condition.
Engine flooding was a common problem with carbureted cars, but newer fuel-injected ones are immune to the problem when operating within normal tolerances. Flooding usually occurs during starting, especially under cold conditions or because the accelerator has been pumped.
Try the methods posted...
It can also help if the accelerator is pressed to floor and held down before you turn the key.
thanks guys will try 2mz cheers
my friends floods all the time.. take the plugs out (can do this in 5 minutes now lol) turn the car over with the fuel pump relay out under the bonnet.if need be dry the plugs over a warm hob and put them back in. replace fuel pump relay turn the ignition and prime the fuel then last start her up.
for future reference my friend avoids flooding from revving the engine to 2500-3000rpm then turning off the ignition then immediately holding his foot down fully on the throttle to burn off all the excess fuel.
nuki excellent mate cheers will let you know how i get on thanks m8 ;)
when the plugs are out of the engine and your turning the engine over without the fuel pump relay. make sure you wait untill all the smoke has cleared from the plug holes then re-install the plugs.
First thing to always try is turning the car over with full throttle the ecu recognises you are trying to deflood and doesn\'t inject anymore fuel and also it allows air into the engine to push through the fuel.
Same goes when you remove the plugs and do a deflood it works better if you use full throttle.

Not sure if that works on FD\'s or FC\'s with aftermarket ECU\'s... IRC it only works on standard FC ecu\'s..
Also you\'d be better off taking out the ECU fuse (marked EGI in the engine bay) -rather than the fuel pump fuse, that way there is no chance of the coils putting anything out and igniting the fuel vapour that will be thrown out
I\'ve done this on a standard FD ecu - worked every time.
As for aftermarket it would be down to your tuner if it works or not. I have my aftermarket ECU setup to cut fuel when I have 85% throttle on crank, then again i do not know if the apexi can do this.
best bet is to remove the plugs. you know it will work. plus you can inspect the condition they are in. :)

Don\'t know about you but i hate removing the spark plugs so i would never do it unless i have to, than again i\'ve not had mine flood yet either.
Good point about the ecu tho it may not work with a apexi i don\'t know. Should work with all stock ecu\'s tho on any vehicle.
The apexi seems to do it too !
