Title: Change in Colour complete, winter mods almost complete.
Post by: C J R on April 19, 2010, 07:53:52 AM
Well,
The colour transformation ws finished on Saturday morning. Just various other mods to fiish in time for Brooklands.

I accept this will not be to everyones taste, but it will be different for 2010. Did not have time to modify the Veilside Arches, so that\'s a project for next winter with a full respray.

Yes its a form of vinyl. Took the guys 2 weeks to get it to bend around the slippery form of the third gen RX. (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif)

You mean it\'ll hurt our eyes seconds before the bump/squish/ooops! :p :)

Looks good.  Guess you haven\'t had any of the issues the chome mini had with insurance then.

That looks amazing!! Who cares whether it\'s too everyone\'s taste - it\'s certainly different! Saw a similar wrap on a 911 in one of the Porsche magazines recently (cost £4.5k apparently ). Your\'s looks just as good...

Steve,
Spot on man.

I had the guys remove the current set of main manufacturer\'s names I had put around the rear arches as the finish was not too good.
They recut the names and reposition them around the rear arches before laying the chrome on.
It produces an embossed look that\'s easily missed unless you catch the light in the right angle.
Hope its sunny on Sunday, I\'ll bring a few spare sets of these (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/images/icons/icon6.gif) LOL

Can you get insurance with it like that. A bloke was in the paper a couple of weeks ago with a mini like that and no one would insure him.

That one? :P

I was thinking when looking at vinyl wraps a while ago that chrome would look awesome on a rex, and it does :D

To answer a few of your questions;

Vinyl wraps are not classed as a permenant change in colour (like attaching a conservatory to your house, it can be removed later (although I hope the chrome is easier to remove than a conservatory LOL.

I checked with my specialist insurance broker before having the chrome added and yes the premium went up!

In my opinion this chroming lark will only be a fresh option for 2010, then everyone will get used to it and the industry will move to the next new novel idea, so for once I thought I\'d be fashionable LOL (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif)

So is this type of finish legal ????

Thought chrome was for show only and not road use ???

Lovely job though buddy, me like :Giggle

According to the information about the chrome mini that made all the news a while back it was purely for the noticeability of scratches and so risk of a tonne of claims for new work that made insurance companies not want to touch it.  It was real chrome though.

No article said the actual idea/concept of a shiny car is illegal and one article thought it likely that specialist insurers would insure chrome cars - as evidenced above.

It does look lovely from any angle and up close too :)

Many thanks Phil.

Santa Pod is a real nemisis to me and it was with a great deal of caution that I took it up the track. Survivied this time LOL and drove the car home (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif)

Thanks for the pictures.

nice one Chris,

Saw her in the flesh at Rising Sun at the weekend, and although the rain didn\'t really do her justice I have to vouch for her looking stunning!!

On a side note Chris , I notice on another thread you have a weir group e-mail addy, what do you do there? We sometimes go there for pump quotes, etc.

Hi Graeme,
I work for the Power & Industrial Division. The Pumps side of the business was sold about 2 years ago, although our service teams still provide service & spares for exisiting pumps.
