Title: Track FD.
Post by: gavink on April 10, 2010, 11:38:06 PM
Hi..Well im new to this forum, and thought id post my thread about my FD. Its also posted over at FDUK but thought what the hell ill do it hear also.

Anyway hear are a few pics of my FD that is currently at Atomic Rex\'s workshop having a few things done to it

Hear she is when I first got her.

I used it for a year or so and fitted a huge ICE install but then grew up i think and tunes were 2nd to performance..

First thing I fitted was a couple of Defi gauges.

I used it on the track a few times and to be honest for standard suspension and brakes it was ok...

I saved for a year or so and was going to spend a fortune on the thing but then bought a house instead so obviously the money went on the deposit..

Anyway been saving a while again and have now decided to put it on the track but im doing it over time and on a budget.

I ordered my suspension (£400) from e-bay..apex coilovers..Now I know there not the best lol but have alot of other things to do also.
Id love a set of Nitrons from Atomic rex but for now these will do.

I called Jon at Atomic Rex just to order a set of side skirts and got chatting about wheels, brakes and alignment etc and ordered a nice set of these!

Still chatting with Jon and i decided it was best to send the car to them to fit the suspension along with new front and rear track pads and set the alignment etc..Jon turned up on the night arranged and after a while chatting the car was off on its way to Wiltshire.

Had this come through today and will post the mods up as they go on.

Cant wait to see it with the side skirts :D

Anyway Jon at Atomic is sorting some seats, harnesses, battery, and some Perspex class out and ill post pics along with a review of things as it hapens.

Cheers all :p

Hi.

Sorry its taken a while to update we have been waiting on parts..

Decided to have the seat rails welded in by Jon at Atomic Rex rather than bolted and as you can see they look suburb.

Also had a new battery cable fitted and had the battery relocated to behind the rear passenger seat.

Now my nice new seats can be seen hear :D

Just waiting on the harness bar to be powder coated then a couple of harness fitted and they will be sorted.

Now the windows..

God its going to be HOT in the summer!

With side skirts fitted

Hear it is with my "FREE" bonnet :p  (i wish :D)

New bonnet by Atomic Rex and it looks gorgeous...Shall i keep it?...Tempted!

Just got to say cheers to Jon at Atomic as he really has been great sorting it all out, If you need anything done or parts etc I really do recommend him..

Well that\'s all I have for now, hopefully ill be able to collect her tomoz and will post a fair few pics up when she\'s home :D

Quote from: colin;169903Car looks great, what size/offset are the new wheels?

Hi..There 17in but not sure on the offset.

Got the car back from Atomic Rex and they really have done a top job.

Not had much time to take many pics yet of the finished job as been working and trying to get the next stage of things sorted..

Had to pop to Halfrauds to get a scissor jack just to get the car of the ground as its now way to low to get my main jack to the sills.

These jacks just don\'t seem safe lol, only used it to get the main jack under.

First off I had to raise the N/S/F coilover slightly (1/4 of a turn) as is was catching very slightly, as you can see from the pic it was just hitting the top of the arch liner.

New suspension

Wheel arch removed.

Few pics of the brake lines that AtomicRex made and fitted for me.

Along with new track pads and a full brake bleed the brakes are so much better than standard. Its a nice cheap mod and I would recommend it to anyone.

After chatting with Jon he mentioned that my bumper blocks off half my intercooler.

After removing the bumper you can see the colour difference in the top and bottom half of the cooler.

I need to get the front of my bumper cut now, I\'m a bit worried about doing this but will pass it on to a mate who was a panel beater so hopefully in a week or 2 ill have a new looking front bumper :)

On to the oil coolers.
As you can see they have a bracket on them that forces the air to go through the coolers.
The O/S one is missing the top of the bracket and the N/S is cracked/perished so ill have to get some new brackets made up.

Now on to the cooling.

I have been advised not to get a cheap radiator but after picking it up yesterday for £50 I\'m going to have to give it a go (sorry Jon:D)

As you can see its much thicker than the standard radiator.

After removing the old radiator I found one of the lower brackets that were made to hold in the radiator have snapped, so I\'m in need of these :)

That\'s about it for now :)

Updates ASAP :)

Ok, got a bit more done to the car today..Didn\'t start till 1pm as had to work this morning then was toying with a visit to the local.

Anyway started with this lot.

On to job one - Had to fit the adaptors to the dragon bar I bought.

Nice easy little job to start the day off..

Have to say that this bar is a really nice piece.
Was a bit annoyed though as Dragon did tell me that the bar would fit without having to mod the PAS pipe!...noooooooo chance!.

Anyway on with the task in hand, removed the pipe,

Yeap that is the x-mas tree holder:D... wont show the misses though lol

Got the strength bar fitted.

Replaced the roll bar bushes with new powerflex ones

Spent the next hour making up the new shorter PAS pipe, wasn\'t to sure what to do hear as I know the old loop in the pipe acted as a cooler so will just have to hope my pas now doesn\'t get to hot.

Attempted to fit the new rad but found the brackets no longer fit so had to slightly adjust

Need to make a bracket up now that will hold the radiator up as it does not have any upper mounting brackets

Fitted the AST removing filler and linked up the hoses, looks much better now the AST is not hanging in front of the engine.

So that was today\'s work :).

Off to have a few beers now and will hopefully crack on some more tomorrow, if I\'m not hanging ;)

Not had any time this week to do anything on the car as just been flat out with work, did manage to order a few parts though :D

Really i should be spending money on engine parts but saw these and that was it!.

With thanks to Billet Blitz i have some nice new mirrors!..

I got the mirror mounts also and these are top quality..Will post more pics when I fit them.

Also got some carbon as I\'ve removed the radio etc and have a horrible cap, I\'m going to mount the defi controller through this and maybe a couple of gauges.

Doubt ill get a chance to do anything on the car tomorrow but as soon as i do ill update..
