Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: Jord on April 04, 2010, 11:09:26 PM
So as some of you may know I\'ve owned this car before. I sold it at the end of 2008 and regretted it ever since so I asked the guy if I could buy it back and he agreed. It will serve as my daily driver/weekend hack around car so I don\'t really have a budget per-say to spend, i.e things will be done on the cheap.

Anyway, I went to the Okishima! (http://www.okishimaprogram.com) meet today to have a chin wag and take a few pictures. Stephen Brooks of BBC/BDC fame did some filming with his new camera setup so expect an artsy film to follow.

The plan is to sell on the green wheels and then try and fit these -

Front - 17x9 +19

Rear - 18x11 +16

IF they don\'t fit, then I\'ll fit these -

Origin DNA02 17x9.5 +15

And thats pretty much it. I have some genuine Ganador mirrors on the way because the race-style ones on there are useless for actually seeing out of, although they are VERY light.

Other things done to the car are K-Sport coilovers [which feel crap so I may change these for HSDs], K&N panel filter, secondary throttle butterfly assembly removed, straight through exhaust system, stripped de-sound-deadened and painted interior, welded diff and S13 front lip. Simples.

:waves: Hi Jord

Good to see some fitment going on on an F body - You\'ll probably need to prepare yourself for a barrage of abuse though! ;) :D

FC looks mint  are you staying stock body? IIRC the FC has slightly less clearance all round than the FD? I think the fronts should pop on no worries with the right tyre, may need a modicum of camber but something like a 215 should pop straight on I think.
Rears may be more of a challenge!

Yeah I\'m staying stock body, there don\'t seem to be many FCs running fitment on metal wings.

The fronts shouldn\'t be a problem as it is running 17x9.5+22 currently with 225/45.
The rears are the real challenge - they will stick out approx 9mm more than the current 17x9.5 +6 setup so some more metalwork fettling is needed at the back! I won\'t compromise ride height to make them fit however so if they really won\'t go I\'ll throw the Origin wheels on.

Btw I\'ve rolled my arches, and the 9.5J ET0 wheels I was struggling with are now absolutely fine, and I could easily fit larger under there if the car was lower!

Will get a pic for you later, but we\'ve rolled them to pretty much the max the arch roller could do :p
Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: Jord on April 05, 2010, 12:39:52 PM
Have you pulled them at all or just rolled the lips flat?

his arches were flared abit... the car looked brilliant.
i recon it would suit the egi really well

Pulled about an inch either side. As I said, pretty much the max we could go with the roller tbh! Lip rolled in first, then gradually rolled out, although it\'s hard to make it pull evenly, it pulls easily (although getting it started was tricky) at the top, but the sides don\'t want to and if you\'re too aggressive will just give you a crease. Mine have a small crease but not bad. Also got to be careful that the flat bit above the crease line doesn\'t pop inwards.

Arch roller was this type:

Here you are, this is as she sits now (yes I\'ve cut the springs and STILL got this ride height!) Dampers are stock and uber soft, so she still rubs over bumps, can\'t wait to get coilovers!

And the pull on the arch - it might not look much, but go and look at yours, they\'re almost vertical from the fold line, whereas mine properly flare out now!

Coool, a bit of movement then, nice pull without it looking like a flare.

Glad to see its not just me with toe-in problems :D

Yuppo, will need some rear adjuster arms sometime, just trying to get coilovers and DTSS eliminator bushes sorted first!

How much camber do you get at the rear when slammed on these?
Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: Jord on April 07, 2010, 10:04:18 PM
take a look at my rear photo mate, thats with nothing adjustable - you get a fair bit.

I think i need some of those DTSS thingies - are they hard to fit?

I\'ve not done it, guess ease depends on the state of your car. E.g. mine will be a bastid!

Lol, you ARE still going to do the manly wheels aren\'t you? The Origins aren\'t bad, but I think the Rota\'s actually looked better.
Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: Jord on April 09, 2010, 02:12:59 PM
Yeah, I just fitted these as I was fed up of the green and I don\'t have use of an arch roller until after the weekend. If these do stay I think they\'ll be going black, grey or bronze as the bright white just highlights how 80s-tastic the car\'s paint is.

Looks good! Now the front? Amazingly you don\'t appear to even have more poke than me! I reckon a little more pull and you can go a little lower :D
Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: Jord on April 23, 2010, 03:05:57 PM
We lowered it approx 10mm more last night, theres room for a little adjustment I think but its pretty tight now.

Its either pull the metal a touch more and risk ....... the wing and go lower or run as is with the metal semi-fooked :D Nothing a skim of filler and paint wont fix.

Fronts will be easy, just need to order some rubber for them. Need to decide on whether I\'m keeping the centres black [ala the rears] or painting them all silver [ala the fronts].

Going to lower it 10mm ish or maybe more too.

So heres another pretty picture in the meantime -

car looks sweet.
are you running all that rear camber to fit the wheels? or it just because you\'ve lowered it so much?
Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: Jord on May 14, 2010, 09:33:04 AM
Theres nothing been changed underneath, I guess its just cambered up because of the lowering. Which has helped with the wheel fitting. I would like to be able to skid this in the wet so no point in going for full contact patch on 255s :D
Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: Adam fc on May 15, 2010, 08:43:11 PM
Im running 255\'s of my turbo fc and ive lowered allot resulting in my tires lasting a month lol.Ive recently fitted a camber arm to my subframe which has increased some of the foot print for the tyres but still spins happily enough lol :)
Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: Jord on May 15, 2010, 08:52:46 PM
I have no cheating turbo though, plus my wheels kinda stick out a bit so running less camber isn\'t really an option.

Plus I love the cambered look. :D

Just got back form Japfest. My POS FC was parked next to £100k\'s of drift cars and was getting a surprising amount of attention all day!
Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: papercutout on May 15, 2010, 11:09:54 PM
I\'m a little annoyed at staying up late and drinking, thus missing Japfest, but I\'m sure I\'ll make up for it soon!

I\'ve got 225/45\'s on the rear of my TII and it doesn\'t spin up that easily! Car feels very torqueless, but is still pretty damn quick when it gets going/comes on boost. I\'m no amateur at drifting either, have done a fair amount, so I\'m not sure what it is!
Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: dthebuk on May 15, 2010, 11:32:11 PM
adam where did you get the camber bar?

ben do you know what boost you\'re running? my car had plenty of power with that exhaust. Though the rear wheels did seem pretty damn grippy when you took me out

So I was driving home yesterday and heard this weird noise on the dual carriage way.

Seems the front lip had slipped down slightly as I must have caught it on something.

However it looks awesome so I\'m going to lower the front about 10mm more [sitting on 215/40 at the front now so its dropped a bit anyway.

People keep saying I need sideskirts, I\'m really undecided. I know I want to put the interior back in though, ideally need to find a TII complete interior!

Yeah, got the 17s on the front on Monday. Fronts are silver face and rears are black face at the moment though, can\'t decide which i prefer although I\'m swaying for silver face.

Post by: mattfduk on June 02, 2010, 05:48:16 PM
Have you got any pictures of it with the SSR\'s all round? Had a look at it parked up at JTS, the SSR\'s really suit it :)
Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: papercutout on June 02, 2010, 07:58:04 PM
I had a look at JTS too :D

Which interior parts do you need? I\'ve got really nice condition leather seats from the cab I\'ll be selling (better nick than initial J\'s, and slightly cheaper), and could be selling a few other bits too depending on what you want? Not doorcards though :p
If it was doorcards you wanted - I pointed you towards someone giving some away! I don\'t know whether you got in contact with him though. They\'ve been binned now to my knowledge.
Title: FC3S EGi. The quest for fitment......
Post by: Jord on June 04, 2010, 01:54:14 PM
I have the full interior from the EGI but it kinda sucks. So basically I need rear seats, front seats and front S5 doorcards. Might leave the carpet out as its a PITA putting that back in. I don\'t really want leather, cloth would be perfect.

I was too late for those doorcards :(

I\'ll take some better pics once I\'ve cleaned it this weekend :)

Ive got door cards in gray if you want them, they have speaker holes cut into them, although think they all have door speakers can\'t remember:2Confused all electric window switches worked when they came out.

Lovin the wheels, i prefer the origin\'s though are you selling them?;)

Can\'t stand them mate! I actually quite like the lamps at full height with most pop-ups. The only thing I\'d change is to have the choice to have sidelights on but an option to have lamps up or down then.

ha, they can be a bit marmite.

ive heard there\'s some sort of relay you can pull from behind the glovebox so the headlight switch wont pop the lights up, not sure if it\'s a rumour though. you could always rewire them

I\'ve had my head behind the dash mate, can\'t decide which one is the relay and no-one seems to have a picture.

If it gets any more complicated than that, I\'m out. All I know about electricity is that if the smoke escapes from the wires stuff stops working. Its the smoke that makes it work.

If you do want to wire them up independantly, I know how to and did a mini writeup with labelled diagrams for Flickster. Basically my headlight switch doesn\'t work properly and turns on; rear lights, dash lights and side lights, so we rewired the headlights and motors.

Looks uber good though mate, nice work!
