Title: sorry guys yet another silly question
Post by: kiwi-mick on April 04, 2010, 08:12:51 PM
again sorry for all the silly questions been a long while since i\'ve done my own work on any car apart from general servicing etc.

here I go, i have a perfect door skin on the series 2, but it\'s the door frame that has had a repair in the past, the series 3 has a perfect door frame but a rusted out skin.
is there any way to swap just the skin over without needed to repaint the outter skin of the door?
especially as it\'s a match paint wise
cheers
again sorry for all the questions
mick

I would say no.
The skin is folded around the door frame and the usual way to get the skin off is to grind the edge of the fold until the metal is worn through and the outer skin comes away.
You then need to break the welds holding the rest of the lip to the door shell.
A skillful bodyman might be able to swap them over for you but I would imagine it would be a ..... of a job and you\'ll never preserve the original paint.

Unless anyone knows any different....

If it\'s past the \'bog\' stage then once that grinder and welder get going the paint\'s nicknacked.
Easier then to find a door that needs nothing doing and respray to code K3? The top frame\'s Black on all cars isn\'t it?
