Title: Wheel spacers, good or bad idea?
Post by: chrisJDM on April 04, 2010, 07:14:58 PM
I\'ve been considering buying some spacers to improve the look of my fd and give it a better stance, I\'ve got standard alloys still and want to keep them but bring the wheels out a little, are there any negatives to getting spacers? I\'m gonna get the wheel alignment done soon anyway so if I get spacers will put them on first. Also I have heard a issue with some spacers that they take away some of the length of the lug nuts but if I get spacers will get the dm motorsport ones which will not get this issue. Also of course the spacers will add weight but not much

I will def get proper spacers, I remember on my peugeot 106 many years ago putting \'shim\' style spacers on that where about 5mm thick, they wernt thick enough so added a 3mm one then the nuts didn\'t screw in too far, can\'t have been safe lol

as above, slip ons are ok up to 5mm (maybe more or less depending on length of studs) however there not going to make much visual difference,

you can fit longer studs and use big slip ons,

or bolt on hubcentrics are much better idea.

ive run several different sizes up to 50mm bolt ons with no probs

just dont buy the cheap universal ebay tat, they are dangerous!

There\'s nothing whatsoever wrong with slip on spacers, as long as the correct sized studs are used - common limit its about 5mm on stock studs, but that depends on the wheel hub design. After that you need to look at longer studs.

If they were unsafe/dangerous, then you wouldn\'t be able to get TUV approved ones :)
