I have had my 1993 rx7 import for a few years now, first got it and it ran perfect! got a hks induction kit for it/ hks bov and it was all good! but then it started spluttering at high revs! I then got a bigger stock mount intercooler and made the mistake of putting the exhaust straight through! as am told its a dangerous mod with a stock ecu, the car has got worse. People tell me its because of the mods wich is causing boost creep! But i have put evrything back to stock and it still stutters and splutters under good revs. I have tried new secondery injectors/all the vacuum pipes have been replaced/ new spark plugs/ ecu has been tested/ new fuel filter! think thats about it! looking to get a apexi pfc for the mods on the car but no one knows whats wrong with it!? Can enyone help!?
New plug leads wouldn\'t do it any harm. Have you tried bringing up the fault codes on the ECU.
wheres the best place to get new plug leads? mite try them. I did just a simple test with a led but it didnt realy work, the light was ment to flash a certain amout of times to tell you the problem but it just went out when the ignition went on? mite have a go at that again, does enyone have eny ideas hoew to do it right?
It idles fine and runs fine its only when your giving it good revs it splutters. if it was the plug leads would it not run like this all the time?:3Confused
Is you fuel pump getting full voltage? Have heard people finding their pump not getting full power and needing rewired. Or, could be the fuel pressure regulator.
Does the ca stutter at high revs in neutral or only under load at high boost?
seems to be only under load on high boost.
Do you have a boost gauge fitted? Magnecore seem okay leads I got mine on Ebay.
There is usually a retricting plate between the cat and the midpipe (its just a bit of plate with a smaller dia hole in to retrict exhaust gasses on the standard car).
My guess is when you fitted the aftermarket exhaust the restrictor went amiss somewhere so even when you fitted everything oem back up it was still too free-flowing for the stock ecu.
The stock ecu retards timing when the sensors tell it your getting a bit close into det territory and as i spent a long time with this problem before pip told me the crack and had it sorted in about 20mins. The stock ecu retarding the timing just feels like its dropped off the power a bit after 6k and it feels flat to redline.
A pfc and some proper mapping is the best solution to this
My magnicor leads are on ebay now, finnishing soon!
Hmmmmm interesting, Im looking for a pfc so if enyone knows where i can get one for a 93 that would be perfect!:Talking1 Well i thought it might be the ecu and i sent it down to jimmys rx7 and he tested it on another rx7 and said it was ok? yes i have a boost gauge but 2 be safe im putting the cat back on tomorrow so i can take it out and see what she is boosting at.
i assume you have checked your MAP sensor, that the wiring or pipes havent split? as that sounds like the situation when that happens

You said in your first post that you had put everything back to stock, so are you running without a cat just now?
And living that far north have you thought about mapping it yourself?
Yea im waiting for new gaskets to come home to put the cat back on incase it does eny damage, no im going to get a pfc and take it south for a remap i think.

No never tried that, Where is the map sensor?
on the bulkhead on the right hand side of the engine bay, its next to the abs unit
Had a look and didnt see enything, got the cat back on today and had it out a blast and it just splutters and cuts out under acceleration. Need to find a place to put it to get somebody to look at it i think. Just not sure wheres the best place to put it thats closest to the north possible?:3Confused
