When you start to mooch through various web pages and forums its amazing to see various acts of desparation that are about.
For instance the prices that some bods are asking for s/h parts that we are after.Gearboxes £139 and diffs £150 on ebay.Hell I cant even sell them for £25(box) and £50 (FC Diff) I can vouch for my parts yet some of these others selling give a good blurb and talk a goood job but look look at the prices. They either have no idea about prices and are wishfull thinking or are totally brasic/skint and after every penny they can get
Beware chaps dont pay over the odds

It amazes me. The bloke breaking the red 1st gen on ebay will never sell a part off it. ( and I hope he doesn\'t)
he wants 50 quid for a rusty door shell and 35 quid for a door mirror.
I bet there\'s massive demand for a second hand drivers door mirror for a 1st gen RX7......not!
Who the hell is going to buy them. With less than 200 cars left in the country, which market is he selling to?
He must have got his prices from 25 years back.
Ridiculous!!
tis a sad state of afairs im just pleased to see another 1st gen kept on the road
iv paid over the top for bits before paid £30 for a nackered radiator just for the temp sender as mine got broken whem my rad was recored and wanted to use the car that day
i dont own a 1st gen but on many jap cars parts / prices i\'ve seen, they do fluctuate a bit.
a couple months ago a profec b spec 2 would be lucky to sell for £135, now £150 and its sold.
I guess its all part of \'supply and demand.\' ok electronics is bit different to 1st gen parts but if theres not many 1st gen parts around then you can argue the price all day long but if there is no place in uk to buy then getting from the states or elsewhere will cost more even if its just paying for postage.
Plus not everyone knows that the price should be, there\'s no \'parkers guide\' to used aparts. end of the day, it will only sell for what people are willing to pay.

The situation with 1st gen parts is a bit different to the later generations.
There is a very , very low demand for parts.
There are hardly any cars left on the road and this number is diminishing all the time.
The cars that are left are mostly in the hands of enthusiasts who know the value of the parts and won\'t be ripped off.
There are many more complete parts cars offered for sale than road going cars and for an enthusiast, this is the value for money way to get the parts you need.
I need a fuel tank and a trailing arm for my project but I\'m certainly not going to get turned over and pay £40 for a rusty second hand trailing arm, which is what some dreamer quoted. I\'d rather buy a complete parts car and strip it myself.
With Ebay, you don\'t need a Parkers Guide or any inside knowledge.
Start the listing at 99p with no reserve and the item will find its own level, based on supply and demand.
Some of those 1st gen parts on Ebay at the moment wouldn\'t find a buyer for years, even at 0.99p start, never mind 30 odd quid.
There just isn\'t the demand.
Well my take on this.
As parts begin to dry up,the prices will increase, only other option is to import from US or OZ & that\'ll cost more with duty/postage.
There\'s not many RX3\'s/RX4\'s left, that has\'nt stopped parts getting very expensive.
Best way as Ian says is to buy a scrapper, but not everybody has the space/time or transport to get it home & then your left with the remains to get rid of or try & sell.
But i agree with 1st gens becoming rarer,it\'ll take a long time to sell parts to the limited nos of enthusiasts remaining.

The main factor with 1st gens is that there are so many scrappers / mot failures out there at the moment. Almost every week, there\'s one on ebay and most of the time, someone on the forum is breaking one.
I\'ve been giving parts away from the one I broke, just to help other members out, as Keith did for me when I needed the bits, not trying to profit massively from someone elses misfortune.
The thing with RX3\'s / RX4\'s is that there isn\'t an abundance of parts cars so any spares that are available, fetch a premium.
But with few cars needing parts, plus a glut of parts cars around, the chancers trying to charge top dollar for 1st gen bits are wasting their time I reckon.
Give it another 10 years, when the parts cars have all gone and it will be a different story.
Those red ebay bits will probably still be on there then at those prices.
like syebba sais, not everyone has the time or space to buy whole and gut it for parts.
the thing with ebay, imo, is that it has contributed to reducing the prices of parts. this is due to many reasons, people not knowing the what the part is worth, 99p starting bid and bad timing as people not got the money to buy or people still thinking theres better bargains to be had and holding off.
auction ends with the part being sold at silly low price so now people think its only worth x amount regardless how low that is and expect to pay that silly low price if another part comes up.
eg, halfords sell led side lights for £15, ebay £2 from china plus a few quid postage, not even £5 landed in uk. now everyone thinks they worth only a couple of quid regardless of who (private or shop) is selling it not taking into account the overheads that shops have.
(although this is quite generalised, i\'m sure can be applied to 1st gen parts also)

I think with 1st gens, owners generally know what to expect to pay.
The parts on ebay fetch whatever the market will stand, if there\'s no demand, it\'ll fetch nothing. If 5 people want it, it\'ll fetch good money.
Do they make 1st gen oem parts in China?
I have a ball joint for sale £500 gets it lol
I don\'t have £500,would you take £700 for it,u can keep the change....
Quote from: kiwimazda;683834I have a ball joint for sale £500 gets it lol

Do you get a free car with it :Giggle
Keep stuff for a another 5yrs and they will have much more value because they will be much rarer !
Shaun
i best not tell you my shed is full of gen 1 spares then doh:spank
It will probably be considered "black market" in 5 years time when the greenies stamp out any high pollution cars, or parts supply for them.
Only joking.
Chortle chortle.
Now you\'re conjuring up images of hoodies on street corners doing illegal change overs...
"gotta Nikki?"
"yeah follow me"
"how about a rot free sunroof"
"sorry guv don\'t do class A"
Cue sirens.....
