Post by: ENVYD on March 29, 2010, 09:03:36 PM
as above, i am going to get a new set of coilovers for my FD, but as its on a buget, (yes the whole of the project has been on a budget)

what would people pick?

D2\'S i can get for £500 new
BC\'s i can get for £520 new

anyone have pro\'s and cons of both?

thanks

d2\'s come from the same factory as k sport.... and the bc\'s come from apex performance in the uk which are also the ksport supplier... so i would say they are both very very similar... i dont like k sport personally or anything that apex makes or sells lol. sorry not much help i know.

tbh it\'d be worth spending slighty more and getting some HSD\'s
they\'re available on driftworks and ive yet to hear a negative work about them opposed to the above

a mate has got a set of D2\'s on a skybus & ther are very harsh! realy no give in them at all :( but then it does depend on what you are going to use the car for.... on street they might be too harsh, but on track the could be great!

The thing you need to bear in mind, is that most of those experiences are on DW forum - the forum run by DW ;) I\'m not saying they\'re bad at all, in fact I\'ll probably be going for HSD\'s next, but sometimes people need to put their scpetical hats on. If you go on to SXOC with its \'ties\' with Apex, everyone will tell you that Apex/BC are the best.

Personally, I wouldn\'t touch D2\'s with a barge pole. Utterly dire in every way. I prefrred my Apex Gen1\'s, and that\'s not a good thing.

I wouldn\'t TOUCH BC or D2s. They are both really budget coilovers and don\'t ride or stand up very well.

BC = Bor Chuang, otherwise known as Megan Racing/Apex Gen 1/Gen 2. All made in the same factory but painted different colours. Also, MeisterR are now made by BC, although the VERY early ones were made by HSD.

Theres also a difference between a positive stiffness to suspension and it being a hard ride. Making suspension ultra stiff doesn\'t make a car handle well, especially on the roads in the UK. You need to pick suspension with the correct amount of damping AND the correct spring rates.

I\'d choose HSD\'s every time, a couple of hundred more but WELL worth the extra and the aftersales support is very good too. I\'ve drifted several cars with HSDs and several with other coilovers and the HSDs are positive yet soak up bumps really really well. The only coilovers that compare are the top end ones liek Silk Road/Apexi. I\'ve got Buddy Club Race Spec on my Silvia and they aren\'t as good as the HSD/DW CS2s. Its worth reading up on reviews on \'Stance+\' coilovers from the US too, these are HSD units.

I\'m removing the as-new K-sports from the FC I\'m picking up at the weekend to replace them with HSDs.

Fair enough, but if it were me I\'d just save for a bit longer rather than buying an inferior product just to see me through. :)

Don\'t buy cheap coilovers and make do, you will regret it. I did.

They a have for a FD £429.00, which is stupidly cheap, would nab them but cant afford them at the moment. Ran them on my EK9 (Previous car) and handle amazingly. And the build quality is very good.

Make sure you keep hold of the receipt, you\'ll need it for the warranty.
