I used to have 225 on a 9.5j. That\'s a pretty common stretch and nothing too mental.

Here\'s a pic of the same 9.5 wheel with a 235 tyre on;

I think 265 (?) would be parellel to the lip. From what I gather from talking to people who have ran allsorts of tyre/rim combos, about 40mm stretch is straightforward.
Getting the bead to seat properly is what causes problems iirc

Stretch for look is a bit lame and \'scene\' - main reason is for clearance :)
Best bet is to work out what clearance you have and adjust tyre size accordingly. For instance, a sunken wheel with a stretched tyre just looks rediculous, but make that offset correct and you can transform the look of the car.
it\'s also worth bearing in mind that different tyres stretch differently - will put up a photo off mine later on when I can get into the loft without waking my better hald - the 235 looks narrower than the 225 thanks to the tyre design.

As for what fits best - old Volks tend to take stretch very well - they\'ve got a nice \'lead in\' to the lip that makes popping tyres on smoothly a pretty simple job :)

whats the limit of stretching that most tyre places can do? like can most do 40m stretch? or is it a case of a can of lynx and a lighter?

planning / thinking of lowering my car a bit more and getting some nice offset rims :)
thought thinking if running stretch then less contact with the road to put the power down?
also what pressure do people run on stretch?more or less than on normal tyres?
