If you get 8.5 compression figures its a new engine, 7s are a good engine, 6s are a useable good engine, 5s or less, best to rebuild, 0s, you have blown something lol

Just make sure that the front and rear rotors are matched, my 87k fc3s engine has 7.2s on the front 3 faces and 6.9s on the rear faces.

Remember that there will be 3 figures for each rotor, so if its 6.9, 6.8, 7.1 its a pretty good rotor, whereas if it was say 6.9, 6.8, 5, its blown something :rollin

Hope that helps a bit

A comp test isnt the holy grail, an engine can have high figures and still not last long. I dont wont to scare you im just trying to put across that a well looked after and well set up car can last a long time with mediocre (sp) figures. On the other hand a high comp motor could have water seal failure a week later (like mine)

Saying that the general rule is....
8bar plus on all rotors is a new engine
6bar plus -"-                  and its pretty safe
anything less than 5 bar and it will be getting hard to start when warm.

Another thing I havent mentioned is that you should be looking for even readings for instance 6.7 6.8 6.9 on the front rotor would be okey.
6.7 6.8 5.2 could be problematic.

HTH, regards Andy

Another thing to note,

Normal Mazda dealers can do the compression test for about £30-50, so you don\'t HAVE to travel miles to a specialist. It\'s the one thing I\'d trust them to do!!
