Title: New set of brakes
Post by: Lil-Steve on March 23, 2010, 12:28:46 PM
Hi Guys,

I\'ve got a new set of discs and pads on their way and I\'m eager to swap them out, are there any particular quirks or irks that I need to look out for, also the are no rear drums for the handbrake it\'s done off the calipers right? Do I need to adjust these at all?

Cheers,

Steve

the rear pistons can be a pain to wind back in :(

but apart from that its usually a straight forward job

i took me HOURS to get the rear discs off ( think they were the original ones )

but the fronts werent too bad

i have NEVER done disks and pads before - but i managed to do one of the front in about 15 mins :D - thats from jackin up to jacking down

have a read of this : http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55775&highlight=disks

oh yeah - thats for a FC - not sure how much the FD differs

I managed the fronts yesterday. The old discs gave me grief as they had welded themsleves to the hub but some brute force and WD40 soon sorted them. Had one slightly sticky piston but managed to free it of took about 2.5 hours altogether.

Got the rears to do later by halogen lamp cheers for the instructions Stu!

If you can mate get a piston-winding-tool-thingy. Makes the job of putting the pistons back in loads easier!! Also, when you take the handbrake clip off the caliper (it\'ll make sense when you see it) it tends to be covered in crap. You might need to give it a quick clean to get it back on.

Oh, depending who you speak to, when it comes to bleed the brakes you may or may not have to do the clutch as well. But if you\'re jacked up anyway it\'s a piece of p!ss to do!

LOL I had to suffice with a pair of snipe nose pliers and a 17mm spanner took a little while but got there eventualy.

I have some Motul M600 brake fluid left to go in so I need a complete swap out of all the brake fluid. Think I\'ll give Carl that dubious pleasure next time I\'m over there.
