Title: Replacement Brake Pads
Post by: CHC (RIP) on March 21, 2010, 10:56:44 AM
Morning guys, beautiful day over here in the Wirral, just the weather for pushing the beast out of it\'s cocoon and wiping off the cob webs.  Yesterday I decided to check the brake pads out only to find OMG! what brake pads!  The pads were worn very close too the metal bit - I\'m glad its not on the road otherwise I dread to think what could have happened.  Anyhow need to replace the pads.  Any recommendations for brands?  Are manufacturers own parts better?
Looking to procure this week so any assistance would be appreciated.  Regards Cliff.

Try your local spares place, my local one even managed to get new front discs for me, and at a very good price.

That\'s a good price, I was thinking of having mine skimmed but I might just fit new ones.

I have not fitted them yet, as I think I will replace the wheel bearings at the same time.

Have just tried local Mazda Agent in Wirral for price & availability of pads to suit my FB - don\'t believe this at all, they don\'t list any parts whatsoever for this vehicle!  Has anybody else heard of this? A baffled RX7 owner - Cliff

Yeh, Many dealers are like that now, they don\'t have the old microfices in place anymore or at least not readily accessible on the counter.

I always go to the Parts Manager at JCT600, Mazda Wakefield. The Parts Manager there is Mark Turner and will get on to Mazda Belgium or Japan if necessary to see if any old stocks of things are still left (which they often are). He will then post out if necessary if you pay postage.

He is on 01924 376644,  email mark dot turner at jct600 dot co dot uk

I guess Mazda have discontinued support for the FB\'s but as said, some parts are available still.

The dealers can\'t be bothered to look up the parts as they assume it\'s all been discontinued.
If u can find the part nos they\'ll probably try, or do as dave says try a dealer who will put themselves out for you, used to be called customer service!

I\'m also lucky as my local dealer has now become a friend and will take the time to look up things for me, but then I have been using them for a good few years now.

Good luck.

Morning David - many thanks for your very useful reply.  Seems to becoming a common trend with dealerships these days - if it\'s not on the shelf or they have to spend a little energy and more importantly use the vital \'grey matter\' they\'re not really interested.  Wonder if I walked into a \'showroom\' and were female (of suitable age & proportions) rather than an aging gentleman (of ample proportions) not quite as my wife might say - whether I\'d get the same response? However being as I\'m not it would appear that we @ the \'MRC\' must stick together and work as a team to research, probe, develop & provide the necessary technical information and more often than not the most suitable solutions to resolve issues - Cliff  :cheers
