Title: air pump removed
Post by: Adam fc on March 19, 2010, 10:34:35 PM
I recently removed the air pump from my t2 and made up some plates to cover up the associated parts.

I plugged the 3 lines that came off the avc and started the car up making sure all lines were plugged up.

Once started the car wasn\'t holding a steady idle and would die and even under throttle around 1500 rpm it still sounded intermittant.

Are there any area\'s i should double check to see if there are any air leaks? If air was leaking from my home made ghetto block off plates would this disrupt the idle??

Did you use gaskets? On bish\'s engine there was only a slight leak and it caused idle issues

no i used some super heat type sealant stuff,i may just order up some proper plates as mine were only made of thin alloy.

thin alloy is no good Adam, you need something like 3-5mm to be any good and not warp under heat or when they are tightened down. I have some you can have that will do the job. Just send me your address and I will send it to you. Just use your old ones as a template.
