Title: Hello ( didnt kno where else to put it )
Post by: DSNorth on March 18, 2010, 09:35:41 PM
fantastic typo in my 1st post :D

Well, My Honda S2000 goes up for sale tomorrow afternoon, after i have finished removing all the aftermarket junk\'s.

And i have a very keen eye on an amazing conition k reg 93 in black.

Immaculate history, everything I ( my mate who knows his rotary ) wants to see has been done and done well by a known name.

A few friends of mine have had RX7\'s in the past and they have always held a special place in my heart, although ive always put of buying one as it is a lot of car and I ( was ) quite young.

Over the last few years ive been slowly building up the car ive been driving, and combfortable handling, so I think the time is right, and I wont die before I get home.

Im 24 by the way, Male. UK Based.

So really just on here to sift through the info, and find out what I can vefore I go and take a look at her next week.

Im sure there is a wealth of info on the site, so ill have a good read through before asking any direct questions.

But any information would be great, thinks to look out for, where do the bad noises and bumps come from.

Its just had a full rebuild, and I know a spanner at the comany that did it, this is actually how I came about the purchase, and he was amazed at how well it had been looked after.

But still, I know virtually nothing about how these things work.

So anyway, Hi  Im sure you will be hearing from me soon :D

Just came across this vid, This to me is my ideal RX7, in black, im a big fan of JDM

QuoteI have only owned it a month and spent more than £1000 on it already!!  The first thing I did was book it in with well known RX7 Rotary  Specialist \'Super 7 Autos\' and spent £600 on a service, and getting all  minor problems fixed including a leaking fuel rail, which involved  taking off the rats nest and replacing a lot of the vac hoses etc. New  MOT etc. They also commented on the excellent condition of the car, no  rust etc. It has only had one owner since import apart from me and the  previous owner was an enthusiast, always changed the oil etc every 3000  miles and always garaged. This is a VERY good example. (I spent months  looking before deciding on this one!)

The engine was rebuilt by RX Heaven just 13,000 miles ago! (loads of  receipts) The engine starts every time from hot or very cold! I have  driven it quite a bit since owning it and I am amazed at how well it  handles compared to my Supra, and how quick it is! It is quicker than  standard as the following upgrades have been added:

Engine:

Recent compression test with low 8\'s

Magnecor 10mm ignition leads

PWR aluminium radiator

Walbro high-flow fuel pump

FSE fuel pressure regulator

Nur Spec R Exhaust and unsilenced decat pipe (Racing Beat Exhaust shown,  I only put the Nur Spec on last week which has a much bigger Jap tail  pipe)

HKS hard intercooler pipes

Lightweight underdrive pulleys

Aircon and airpump removed

Battery relocated to boot

K&N panel filter

Apexi ecu and commander mapped by RE:WORX

Suspension:

Fully polybushed including the steering rack

Tein Coilovers

Interior:

Momo commando steering wheel

Re Amemiya steering cowl boost gauge

Black leather seats, rear seats and roof lining

3 x Auto Gauges, Oil pressure, Oil temp, Water Temp.

Exterior:

Re Amemiya door mirrors

Mazda Speed side skirts and rear spats

Tinted windows

Smoked lights all round

HID headlights

Racing Beat split rim alloys with Avon ZZ3 tyres 235/40 F and 255/40 R  17\'s

Weight:

1250kg (standard weight 1280kg)

Power:

Dyno\'d at RE:WORX 325.5bhp at the flywheel (269.4bhp at the wheels) at  0.8 bar.

I think it has more bhp than this now, as since then I have changed the  exhaust and it has been serviced.

It has lots of service history dating back since it arrived in the UK,  it also has a mileage certificate and import details, it\'s a very  genuine car! Tax and 12 months MOT, just had its 3000 miles oil change,  engine has 70,000 + miles left until rebuild, so nothing at all to worry  about!

Its always good when you can get on the forum, and see what the cars been up to, If you buying a car and there is a thread from a week ago " help my engine is dead what should I do " with the first reply being " sell it " lol you might be a little wary.

But hopefully thats not the case :D

It certinally looks like it has been well looked after.

Just waiting for the S to sell now :D

how come your getting rid of the s2k anyway, i always saw it as the rx7s N/A brother, just fancy the same handling setup but with turbo power?

Well, ive been thinking about welling it since last year, But put it off as no one wants to buy an S in the winter,

Now is comming up to the perfect time to sell it, Suns been out a bit, summers comming and people have had the roofs off.

Ive had a lot of fun with the S, it is an amazing car, but Ive had it for 2 years now, so its time for a change.

Ive always had a soft spot for the RX7, and its on my list of cars to own :D

Just realised ive been watching arious vids and read countless webpages for the last 3 hours.

At least I now know how the engine works, but I warn you guys, ive got a load of questions.

The way the rotary works look so unnatural to me, Guess its juts not how im used to seeing an engine run, Bet there nice and easy to work on though.

Might head down to a scrap yard and see if i cant pull a wrecked one out to stick in the garage and pull to peices.

Only information I have not been able to find so far is the differences between the models " RB, R1, R2, RS, S ", A post im missing somewhere ?

Also the as above im looking at a 93 K reg, whats the difference between the various models of the 3rd gen, Have they improved with age, or id they peak like the S2000 in 02 ( in my opinion :P )

All info appreciated, sorry for my catastrophic(speeling wut?) lack of knowlege.

Bed time for me, ready for a hard day of RX7 revision.. cough.. I mean work tomorrow.

Still cant find that sticky... cant even see the general queries forums :S

but from that second link, woudl i be right that the K reg im buying is a Gen3 Version 2 ?

And how would i go about finding out what " Type " it is ?  Tourign X/R etc....

thank fo the info so far though :D slowly learning :D

Look for this sticker in the door shut:

That will tell you what you have. There are other telltale factors too, for instance Type RSes have larger brakes and firmer suspension, Touring models have leather and cruise control and so on.

More good info, thanks a lot,

So is there a particular Gen3 that people favor ? I see one is putting out a bigger lump of horses ?

Are there any massive diffrences between different models and types, the stiffer suspension for example, for the lower HP models, is this hp gain somethign tht can be done to the other models ?

Sorry for all the questions, im sure you must have answered them a million times, I hope im not askign to many things that are available on the boards, I try to have a good look through :D

I wouldnt worry too much about the horse number. All 13b-rew\'s are the same engine. A good exhaust, induction kit and mapping sesh will see them all hit the same sort of figures!

If you have a Type-R, it will also have twin oil coolers btw....
Title: Hello ( didnt kno where else to put it )
Post by: DSNorth on March 21, 2010, 07:02:03 PM
Well this is what i managed to look through,

Version 2
----
Suspension refreshed (Rear softened) - Not an issue, has a set on.
Added Rear stiffener bars to rear sub frame - Not a problem 4 bolts
White fog lamps - 40 quid from a scrappie ?
Black gauge bezels - Anyone really care ?
Speedo design change - Ill have a look, but I would guess I could change them if i want.
Optional sunroof changed  to  glass - Not really a big deal, Changable ?
-----
Version 3
-----
Rear Wing changed to Dolphin type with two stays - Not keeping anyway
Rear view mirror double jointed - Replaceable
Boot interior light deleted - Meh !
     -----
Big brakes 314 mm - A big difference ?
Front calliper leading piston changed - Reasons ? Replaceable ?
Hard type Torsen LSD 4.3 Final - What was the FD previously ?
-----

All in all, i dont really see anything in the various models that I would really care about / could not upgrade / replace myself.

These twin Oil coolers, Im sure have cooling benefits, but the information I can find does not mention anythign abuot when they were put in or if there needed etc...

I just wonder what other information im missing out on :(

Anything ive missed ?

Thanks as always

Yeah, for the most part the changes are cosmetic.

As for oil coolers, i\'m positive of all \'93 cars it was only the Type-R which got them.

so are the twin coolers I would be keeping on the car wen i start pushing for more power, or would they get swapped out with the rest,
Does the oil need 2 cooler s?

Tbh, i\'m not sure. But if Mazda engineers decided it was a good idea on a standard car i\'d be inclined to keep them on a tuned one!!

That was the way i looked at it until i found out it was only on 1 model, Would be interesting to see why the deemed it needed for 1 model, and no others :S

Has anyone got a link to another page with details on all the spec.

http://www.rx7.net.nz/fd-jp-models.html

seems to be dead :S
