Title: What exhaust? choices choices...
Post by: wiggman2030 on March 17, 2010, 01:44:14 PM
Hi people,

Getting my rex rebuilt and street ported soon and since i have a stock exhaust it\'s a good excuse to get a new one because of the restrictions and all that.  I\'m not sure whether or not i should decat as i don\'t want the hassle of mot emissions tests.  If anyone has any good recommendations of a full system then it would be appreciated. I don\'t want it to sound too loud (annoying the neighbours) but i want it to sound good as well as providing decent air flow.  I am also getting an apexi power fc with a remap but waiting for the exhaust first :)

Thanks a lot

:)

I have a Tiger exhaust from MRC i have just taken off. It stainless steel including the internals. It got a very good sound and is good for about 420bhp . The only reason i am swapping is its restricting my power at 420 so i have gone with a better flowing one otherwise was very happy with it. If your interested £100 + del.

Sounds good, do you have any pics/videos? Is this a cat back system? i\'m looking to add an hks downpipe as well as induction kit with a street port and mapped with an apexi ecu. Any ideas what power this would produce with this exhaust added too? don\'t want to have the same problem as you lol.

But yeah sounds good, i\'ll do a bit more looking around as i haven\'t had the car rebuilt yet. Then nearer the time if it\'s still available i will probably take you up on that offer. Is it still in good condition?

Im selling not a thing, but, i would deffo reccomend a de-cat or a sports cat with one of the following exhausts as both are fairly quiet (as much as rotaries go)

Re-Amemiya dolphin
Racing beat

The Racing Beat twin is a wonderful exhaust - looks subtle, nice subtle rumble on idle, and lovely tone, but not too loud on boost - I\'ve heard of them flowing up to 500 as well :)

I love mine, no way I\'m selling it though! Currently running it with a Tiger decat silencer, and it was circa 92db at 4.k5 at Combe last year with stock porting/tubs!
Potentially ditching the centre silencer this year though, I\'m a bit worried about restrictions.

are you on twins? get the wastegate ported while the street-port is being done, that way you can laugh at all us idiots who whinge about boost-creep after putting on awesome exhausts

Thanks for all the replies,

i have a better idea what to get now, like i said i\'m still waiting for it to be rebuilt and ported. Yes i am still using stock twins as a new turbo is just too expensive after putting everything else on the car.  I will probably go with a decat in the end, i\'ll just have to change it again before each mot lol.  What benefit would i gain from porting the wastegate and would the be any drawbacks from doing so.  Is boost creep easy to resolve if i choose not to?

Thanks

Well I got the wastegate ported in the end, Having a lot of trouble finding a good exhaust though, doesn\'t seem to be that many around that are quiet.  Has anyone tried the rotary art single tip exhaust, they say that the dual exit with a straight through decat gives out 89dB! that\'s pretty quiet but I just don\'t like dual exit. So if anyone knows if the single tip is any good/louder that would be helpful.

you dont have to put the cat on when you go for mot aslong as you have a power fc and commander

I second the The Racing Beat twin.  It looks good, sounds good and best of all you can hear yourself think when driving!

Do you have any pictures and how much are you asking for it? What set up do you have on your rex? silenced decat, straight through, porting etc?

HKS down-pipe straight through to the Racing Beat back box. No porting but bigger injectors FMIC Airnix air filters RE-Worx sorted and running 352 at .8 I do like the sound its not overload but just sounds good.

Nice, that\'s not a bad dB rating for a straight though system. I\'m also looking to getting mine mapped to around .8 bar. As I\'m using the stock downpipe I wont be able to take it much higher than that. Sounds like you have a good setup

Yes the Racing Beat is a very well made piece of kit and sounds about right. The only downside will be tracks that require a lower db reading.
