Ok i filled a whole tank of petrol up just over 80 pound was going up the road and started to hear a knocking noise in the engine :reallymad pulled over and when you go up the revs it sounds fine but its like a rattle when it comes down the revs. no smoke boost gauge stays fine and starts up fine. So i towed it home. it still starts fine now but alot of oil smoke out the back and the noise is still there. so i took the turbos of and replaced them with another set i had. again still makes the noise and smokes alot although it is starting first turn. I took the turbos of again as i thought its oil coming from the turbos. I have noticed that there is alot of oil burnt and un burnt in the exhaust ports on the turbos and alot of oil in the first port of the first rotor on the engine.
Is there any way oil could be getting into the engine from any other source or is it going to be a oil seal in the engine which is going to be a full engine rebuild.
Forgot to add i took the spark plugs out and they seem ok a little bit of deposit on the tips and did a compression test and compression is not bad. A small difference between first and second rotor and all tips are fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
myself i would suspect the turbos are still rooted,, or perhaps oil from the old ones is still present in the exhaust
-- it takes a good thrash to burn it out,, and without the airflow of a decent drive,, the old turbo oil in the exhaust will smoke for ages if left at idle
rattling noise may be cat
edit,, rattle may also be air pump / ASV moo
ok i will have a look again lol i am trying to get it down to karl at hayward rotary to diagnose it but someone stole my mates car trailer the other night:Grrr
the air pump has been removed and so has cat sorry forgot to mention that and its the fd3s 1993
could this be down to oil injectors or anything i have read up if its oil seal or injectors i dont need to get the engine rebuilt i just dont know its really annoying me now any help would be great
bump can anyone help want to know as i cant find anything about rotarys making a knocking noise. i want to know if i could drive it to karl at hayward rotary any help would be great
seems like residual oil from your first turbo blow up, go for a drive. duff oil injectors wont cause the problem. Knocking could be from your cat, if a lot of oil has gone through could have caused it to collapse.
I reckon you be alright to drive it to Carls, but their are no guarantees in life. Cant you get the AA to tow you if you have membership?
Cush, same thing happened to me, massive amount of oil smoke out the back. Swapped the turbos just like you and still the same...
Turned out to be the engine oil seals, now running in my second rebuild....
