started the car up and took off the handbrake and the brake light on the dash stays on, tried driving off and the rear brakes and rubbing badly, tried adjusting the handbrake adjuster bolt and makes no difference, tried driving round the block to see if they come loose but still keep rubbing. When rob dropped off the car a couple weeks ago brakes were fine, no light on dash or rubbing.
Normaly I would say that is a caliper sticking, but if the hand brake light is staying on this means the leaver is not staying down indicating a seized hand brake cable
thanks clive, how do i look at un-seizing it? you may know my new car :D
the light is controlled by a switch on the handbrake so if the handbrake is not fully down the switch is still on,
i never had this problem when i had it, but then while is was here not used and parked up i never used the handbrake, just left it in park, as per the pm, have you checked i never adjusted the adjuster on the handbrake to much?
i have totally undone the adjuster and it seems to have no affect :xconfused
get a hammer and spank the caliper a bit :)
with auto\'s, if you dont use the handbrake often then it sticks more easy. thats all i know from driving an auto for a long time.
lol sounds like a plan, im sure thats prob what it is, cause the car has hardly been used the brakes are a bit stuck on
When I did my brakes a few months ago I noticed that the \'clip\' that the cable connects to on the caliper was covered in sh!t and was sticking. If you get the chance, jack the rear up, take the wheel off and have a quick looksee. (It\'s behind the disc on the rear side of the caliper - can\'t miss it)
HTH
graeme
cool thanks graeme i will take a look.
aint had chance to take the wheels off yet and take a look but near enough totally undone the adjuster on the side of the handbrake and the handbrake is fitting metal where its coming all the way off. The brake light on the dash still stays on and the brakes are still rubbing when i drive it. Is it maybe something to do with the auto box park function, how exactly does that work as i have no idea
