Hey guys,
Hope this is going to be a quick question; I\'m having problems with my car in that it refuses to run for more than 2 seconds on a fresh engine, with a gauge in the fuel lines i notice it drops from 35psi down to 20spi while cranking..
Is it normal for the pressure to drop so low as im starting to wonder if i have a worn fuel pump.
should be around 38-42 psi with the vacuum disconnected
and around 35 psi when idling ( vacuum connected , PRC solenoid bypassed )
and it should maintain that 35-42 psi while cranking
( its a wide range because under various conditions stock cars will run the PRC to cheat the pressure up by denying it a vacuum source = usually warm starts )
i would think that rather than a worn pump,, there is issue with ignition switch ,, or even a poling starter that is robbing or denying the fuel pump current while cranking
-- the other trap for new players is getting the supply and return lines back to front
and it will start and then stall immediately in this scenario
to get around the worn ignition barrel/ bad current during cranking ,, try tow starting ( manual car )
if it starts, runs and maintains pressure,, then methinks its a electrical supply issue
else check that the return line to the tank is on the regulator ( the one with a vac source nipple )
I have a FPR on the return side of the fuel line after the hardpipes that run over the engine. (The line that\'s closest to the bulkhead) the standard FPR has been removed. Would I see the pressure at 35 psi when the fuel pump primes in this situation?
i\'m 99% sure ive got the fuel lines on the correct way, ive tripple checked them now unless the people\'s posts on here im reading are wrong :rollin
I\'ll get the multimeter out on the fuelpump to see what voltage it see\'s at cranking :Thumbs-up
