Title: drag tyre / wheel sizes
Post by: Roundabout-Now on May 12, 2004, 01:10:36 PM
I need advice from those already running drag tyres.

I\'ve just spoke to LA racing who were very helpful, but want to check a few things....

1/ Will 15" wheels fit on the rear? Just doesn\'t look tons of room over the calipers with my 17s so wasn\'t too sure. Was looking at 16x9 or 9.5 as wasn\'t too sure.

2/ Recommended wheel width - 9.5? or just 9? or smaller?

3/ Tyre size - if going for 16x9 was looking at maybe 26x10.5 or 26x11.5.

So do those in the know care to share? ;)

TOP MAN!!!  great to see you really getting into it!

Clive is da man to talk to, I think he had a set of Mickey Thompson\'s, on the 16 inch rim.

See thread here:

15inch rim is too small I feel, and your final drive ratio (diff.) is important also.

Main thing is getting that initial traction!  get those 0-60ft times down.

Do they have to be street-legal (ish) tires? Was just reading the other thread and I thought you had to use street legal for rotorstock which made me look at hoosier et streets.

If I can use anything at rotorstock then I may as well go for full on slicks.

Let me know.

My understanding is that tire choice is open...

May be a sweepstake on the number of broken drivetrain components by close of play monday would be \'appropriate\'? :rollin

LOL, those were my thoughts too, if my car\'s not running we might take my diff off it and bring it down - should fetch a premium at RS :D

Yes, believe it or not, 15\'s do fit (with slight use of a file), but the Hoosiers have a very tall sidewall and the overall diameter is far far bigger than stock :(

This means that gearing is not really ideal as the change to fourth gear, even with high terminals is too close to the finish line. No time to whack in a 4.77 final drive either.....

This should give you an idea of their size.
