Title: Oh no! look what\'s happened...
Post by: Ian65 on March 07, 2010, 05:42:28 PM
After getting the rear suspension ready to put on the car, I thought I\'d do the tank next, which would complete the rear end of the car.
I only touched it with the wire brush and look...

\'Oh dear, what an inconvenience\', I thought to myself.

I suppose on the positive side, it\'s a good job it\'s happened now rather than leak when it on the car.

I don\'t suppose anyones got a spare one they can sell me?? or else I\'ll be at the mercy of the Ebay breakers...

Sadly, not an uncommon sight :(

Theres a few specialists who can fix them though - worth having a look through the ads in Practical Classics... or await Mr Nock who will be along shortly with all the right words :Giggle

Not sure if you either have a spare or are going to repair this yourself but it may help to know that you will find that quite a few radiator companys will also take on tank repairs,

This is becoming common on 1st gens.
There\'s quite a few scrappers at the mo,should be able to get a tank off them.
I think dave mentioned mazda don\'t make new ones anymore.

I\'ve fixed loads of tanks with pinhole leaks in the past. Clean the area around the hole back to bare metal and then repair it with araldite.
This tank is in a bad way though, paper thin on top.
It\'s  a good tip about rad companies repairing it but I\'ll try to get one off a scrapper 1st.
Here\'s hoping!!

My friendly Mazda guy said \'No more available\' a couple of years back.

Looks bad that tank....I think you\'ve got the best idea, try and find a scrapper with a decent one.
I let my last one go to the scrap man with just a pinhole....sorry Ian.
Mark has said in the past that S2 and S3 are different, but surely it can\'t be by much. Maybe drain plug only (that rings a little bell).
