Title: Peter Best and modifications?
Post by: theduck on March 05, 2010, 08:14:16 PM
Just done a quote on the Peter best website and it is by far the lowest price I have found, just wondered how they stand on modifications?  Do they affect the premium much?

I use Brentacre at the moment and visual modifications, inductions kits and exhausts carry no extra premium, but they are much more expensive than Peter Best on the RX7.

Got an amazing quote through them and emailed through my mods inc single turbo, swirl pot, fmic etc.  Wasn\'t a problem and my lowest quote to date, so thumbs up.

Did it make much difference to a quote for a standard car?    I havent bought my rex yet and if the mods dont make too much difference then I can considered slightly modded cars, if it does make a big difference then i will just look at standard cars.

Cheers for your help :)

As a quick answer:

My original on-line quote came back @ £216 for a standard FD (i\'m 25 btw)

One phone call later with all declared (wheels, suspension, +50bhp, minor body stuff) the actual quote came back at £297.

I just tried them for my FC all mods declaired. £541 fully comp 5000 miles and Im 30 in 2 months time. Think its a bit steep myself. How do you lot get your quotes so low on your FD\'s when you\'ve got more power than I do and I live in one of the best post cade areas in the UK?

i know, it sucks! fd peeps insurance are generally lower than fc peeps :(
mine came in at just under £500 all mods declared with adrian flux (underwriter is marker study). 30yo, 4ncb, postcode is not high risk.

i think deep down, they know fc\'s are better cars so have higher premiums for them :p

It just annoys me that my FC is technically my 3rd vehilce after the work van and the focus yet it cost me at least double what everyone else seems to pay. I mean i\'ve no convitions or claims and 9yrs no claims bonus to boot. I just don\'t get how insurance companies callculate premiums. Its like they just pluck numbers out of the sky or something.

Whats your pre-mods price?  If you dont know you can quote here http://www.peterbestinsurance.co.uk/classicpages.aspx?p=ClassicQuoteNow

With the ULLE, and my home postcode, and putting in 30, my quote is about £245 on 5000 miles.  Obviously lower mileage makes big difference.

Try that link, take less than a minute to check, might just be the level of mods, or might be some other factor.

that link quotes all mazda models and no rx7. anyway, i will be giving these a call soon and hopefully get a decent quote.

do they do secondary cars on the same policy??

and most company do, i find just find them in the sky lol i phoned a company one day and then phoned back again but spoke to someone else and the exact same details, nearly £100 different :Grrr  also noticed it with online quote as well by getting the quote, and then editing it but not actually change anything and the price varies everytime...

Just tried it with no mods on the website, £220.61. So my mods are costing me £320. I can\'t believe thats value for money. I could be running a 400bhp FD for the money they want going off other peoples quotes.

Seems really odd, tiddles, especially when comapred to trotters.

yeah they have battered me on my mods too, 180 with out 450 with, i wonder if they did some great rates eairly on to get good press with people like us and now just back to the same old ways.
i\'m 31 7 years ncb, 2nd car +80hp. nothing too crazy.

Peter Best quoted me £263 with a agreed valuation on a long list of mods. I thought that was rather good :)

The thing is with PB cause its on a classic policy I can\'t use NCB. So after 2 years my NCB would be lost as I wouldn\'t have used them. My current poilcy is very similar to PB best quote + I get to use my NCB and do more mods without changing the premium.

Sounds like pb aren\'t the ones for you, for a second car its perfect for me as I have my ncd used on my other car. Also I pay 230 for 3k a year with mods declared (minor body stuff, alloys, suspension and +50bhp), was about 200 without lol. Also I have a declared total write off from a few years ago.

Looking to buy an FD soon so thought best to check the insurance.  Just gave PB a ring and they have quoted me 355.80.  This is just based on a car without mods.....still happy with it though!

I dealt with April Page in the Kelvedon office. Absolutely painless. All done by email and not a online form in sight.
