Hello all!
Recently bought my FD from Carl Hayward (Hayward Rotary).
Brilliant looking car with fresh engine rebuild.
that\'s where the good ends.
Cant get insurance! Im 19 with 2 years driving and 2 years no claims with no offences or anything like that.
Adrian flux dont want to know and fed up of being chucked around through loadsa different brokers that are all saying no.
i know its been posted loads, but was wondering if anyone knows of a company now that can help me out ?
am going on a driving holiday arround europe in 4 weeks and need to get this sorted before then. dont want to be a sidekick on a 3.5K mile journey arround swiz, germany france and italy!
thanks!
You are really gonna struggle to get insurance and those who will quote will be silly expensive, I had to wait until I was 21 to buy a fd and even then it cost me close to 2k to get insurance and that was 5 years ago. That was with elephant.co.uk so could try them
good luck!!
have a look at this thread

thanks,
i think im going mad but i have 4k saved up to hopefully pay it off.
the lowest quote so far is £8k, dont even know why they quote!

All i\'ll say is GOOD LUCK :o
You could try AON but i think you have to be 25 to be with them. You should of got a quote before getting the car

I did! thats what annoys me. they said something like £3700. i was like great! get on and buy the car. but this was months ago and they seamed to have changed there minds.
had to get dad insured (£440:2Mad) and hes registered it under his name (jap import), so when i come to insure it ill change the owner over to me. only way we could think of how to do it. the insurance for me didnt like that it wasnt registered (obviously no number plate to search car) so wouldn\'t quote, but i needed insurance to register it. ridiculous!
I\'m sorry, but at the age of 19 unless you have already had a lot of time behind the wheel of something with equal power and performance, something with the power of an FD is a massive risk. TBH, I would start with a something like an EGi or a 1st gen until you\'re at least 21. (Because frankly you need looking at if you want to spend ££££ on insuring a car!)
That aside - rotors are cool, and the Rx7 is a lot of fun, I just think you\'d be better off buying a less powerful rotor until the insurance becomes sensible.
:wave
u can insure it with chassis number. good luck with the insurance hunt :)
Welcome to MRC Jim and good man for no messing about and becoming a Full Club member straight away, indeed it may help to tell the companys that you are a club member.
Really hope that the club can help you go forward and you can enjoy this amazing car,
Just did a quick search above and Pete Best and Admiral came up on threads for 20/21 year olds as being cheapish.
Hey Clive,
just got a quote for £4500 full comp.
tbh i think if youve saved up the money, its better spending it like that than peeing it up the wall at the pub.
gonna be ringing loads more when the reg docs come back, so ill let other young-uns know what sort of prices and companies.

Hi...dont know your situation but you could buy another car to use everyday then see if you can get the FD insured as a classic?
my brother had this with his subaru P1 at 19 so my dad insured it fully comp (your dad could do a classic car policy, i pay £230 and im 27) and my bro insured a little deisel corsa fully comp a was insured third party on any other car!
there are companys around that still do this for under 25s!
its not ideal but your legal to drive it whilst its covered for theft etc by your dad! this would save you alot of money but your not fully comp! i personally couldnt pay £4000 to insure a car.
have you tried admiral??
good luck!
I was trying to find and insure an fd at your age and i had no luck... so i brought my self an FC egi which is just as much fun.
Ive actualy still got it as i cant bring myself to seeling her but i think i shall put the egi up for sale now ive got my fd. I will admit the egi needs some tlc but wow she has to be the fastest egi ive ever drove without going stupid with mods.
I had the same experience as you but i was another year older and it cost me £1k to insure the egi for a year with admiral and no one would touch me on the fd. £3k for a year.. in other words we dont want you. lol
One thing to bear in mind with the old "My dad\'s insurance" trick is that if you do this knowingly with it being your car and you as the main driver, if you get found out (and im personally not sure how they do this) but the insurance will be null and void.
On the upside though, kudos for getting one so early in life. Just be wary of wet roundabouts + 3rd gear + 3500rpm!! :D
You\'re really iceskating uphill with this situation! Even if you can get insured, it\'s likely to be with lots of conditions, such as limited mileage and possibly an exclusion on driving in Europe. I wouldn\'t get your hopes up too much about driving your FD across the continent.
Have you considered the running costs involved with these cars?
Over here in the Netherlands some young drivers register the car on daddy\'s name. Than the car can be insured on daddy also. But that is not without any risk.;)
But: No risk, no fun:rolleyes:
bloody hell you have an expensive hobby at 19!
Insurance assuming your paying £4000 works out at £11 quid a day! and price of fuel these days is rediculus!
