not the thing you really need to be worring about if your buyig an rx7, Probably better to not even think about it. I would bet you\'ll struggle to get more than 15mp average out of it with All that fun on tap.

If you drive like a granny you might possibly see 19mpg (and you can only feed it Optimax/V-Power or whatever the hell they call it nowadays @1.20+ per litre) but you\'\'l be doing between 4-17mpg dpending on how far down the noise pedal is.

i would maybe think again about getting a rx7 if your worried about fuel... its one of those things, i fill up to just over 1/2 tank, then then it has 1/4 tank left i stick 20-30 quid in to bring it over half way again...

i dont think about mpg... its the last thing i worry about when i drive the rex lol!

worked it out once and came to a value of 10MPG....Made a trip to Wales and back mostly M4 at speed limit and a few lead foot moments - A blast in the mountains on my way there and back.
It\'s the last time im ever working it out! - i\'d hate to know what my 1 mile to work each day is!! ~1/4 tank every other day.

Yeah, don\'t look at the petrol pump and just fill the car up as and when needed :D don\'t forget that over 5psi the secondary injectors start to fire as well, think of it as if a 4 cylinder engine had 8 injectors lol and they are fairly large injetors as the FC3S OEM ones are condsidered a big upgrade if they are plumbed into an MX5.

If you are worried about MPG, get a free flowing air filter (I am guessing it has this already lol) make sure its all properly serviced and put it on cruise control if needed, its not that bad off boost, its just as soon as you boot it everything just dumps fuel in lol might also be an idea to replace the O2 sensor to give a better cruise, unless its got an aftermarket ECU (I am guessing it has) might be able to get part of it remapped for a better cruise cycle.

Crusie control sucks fuel m1tch - using it to save fuel is one of the daftest things I\'ve heard this week :D

As above, if you are worried about fuel consumption, don\'t buy an F-body. I\'ve averaged 14mpg in my ownership, but that\'s on twins.

goldk - 1 mile? FFS, walk! You\'ll save yourself a packet in both fuel costs, and life shortening carbon build up! It\'s probably not even warmed up by the time you turn it off!

Haha I\'m not really worried about it it\'s jus my mate was making out like u could not even go down the road without using a full tank n stuff and he has a focus rs

yeh to be fair any high performance car is gonna be pretty bad, it all depends how you drive it, im not sure how many miles it will do on a full tank on a good run, i think prob around 200 miles, if you are driving it hard will use it up pretty quick.

Compared to the Focus RS, a rotary will be a whole new world of pain. Seriously, it will eb much worse.

Yeah, like the others said, your potential buying RX7 is 475BHP and I would certainly think that you will not use it as a daily car. So the mpg is irrelevant as long as you keep feeding fuel in when it is low but not too low.

20 mpg is good I only got that runnining my car in after a rebuild where I drove it without going into boost, after 800 miles I got 15 still driving with care then once run in its back to very few mpg again

First sign of the little green monster known as envy.  You\'ll have a gorgeous (to quote Evo magazine "Achingly Beautiful\') focussed sports car, he has a hatchback primarily designed for going to the shops and back that they\'ve spruced up a bit (ok maybe more than a bit), and is FWD (Fail Wheel Drive) - and I\'m not being harsh, I really do love the Mk1 FRS. I get about 220miles to a tank (70l) of combined driving, and about 340miles on motorway cruise.

So I\'ll no doubt see you around the Shell stations of Cheshire mate ;)

RX-7 fact number one: they burn fuel and oil. in fact, they burn so much fuel and oil that this forum is the number one reason why the Arab Emirates haven\'t gone bust yet.

RX-7 fact number two: Global Warming never looked or sounded this cool, so who cares!

If its for a weekend car then get one but for every day its to heavy on fuel. You see many people buying a rex, keeping it for a short while then selling it due to the running costs.

In the 2.5 years ive owned my fd it has barely used any oil whatsoever so i believe that some do, some dont. Before its said, my omp is working fine and the crappy halfords mineral is changed every 2-3k and rarely strays from the full marker if at all.Even when it was bone standard it used next to none equally now pip mapped with bolt-ons it still uses very very little oil over the 3k intervals. Vpower on the other hand is a different matter lol

22mpg on a run, 12-16 mpg usually though on weekend blasts waking the northumbrian countryside:evillaugh

on a run I\'m getting about 23ish, don\'t realy calculate it any more as my wallet sh!ts itself! and on a sprited drive you can vertualy watch the needle drop as you go through the gears! and that is on a moderatly tuned 330ish bhp!

I had a lancia delta integrale before my FD and compared to the FD that was like running a fiesta diesel. Rotaries and decent mpg just dont mix.

Just buy it and enjoy it. The only time you need to worry about fuel consmption is when you\'ve filled it up and you realise you can bury your right foot into the carpet again :D

With all your fat mates in the car you\'ll be lucky to get 10mpg ;)

reason number 9 why I love the Rex is I have similar fuel consumption to a Murcialago for a fraction of the price!!! Bargain!

not really watched it on the fd, but cruising its pretty good.

ive also had 30 mpg out of the fc before now.

ive found that driving off boost produces better fuel economy than the n/a rotaries

I have managed I think 31mpg on the motorway, 8 around town, 2 on boost :D lol

Cruise control works on mine for fuel economy as it doesn\'t spool the turbo as much, as soon as I put my foot anywhere near the throttle I get instant spool on the turbo, the cruise control seems to be as if I had a feather foot lol rarely goes on boost :)

not sure on mpg but on 3/4 worth of a tank (fc tank) i get about 200 miles combines. think worked out about 30p a mile on fuel i think. prob the best 30p you can spend :)

I actually think the fuel consumption is good given the power, I got 24mpg driving from london to edinburgh sitting at 75.

Doesn\'t use much oil either.

erm, surely that\'s one fat-ish mate in the passenger seat, and two 1/2 mates in the rear??

I\'ll do 24-26mpg on a run from Hull to Edinburgh at average of 70mph. However, rush-hour traffic on way to work will see that down to single figures!!

if you want to increase your mpg and also reduce your carbon footprint you could put energy saving lamps in the headlights?

i get around 22mpg when driving on the motorway, but around town it is down to 12, recently i managed to achieve 98 miles from 50 litres of fuel, which is really poor as i normally get around 150!

however these miles are probably the best miles any car  owner could enjoy, as stated by a few other people earlier.

The way I see it is this; you can spend £60 on a night out, get drunk and have nothing to show for it except a bad head the next day.

Or you can fill up your Rex, and enjoy it for at least a couple of days, without the nasty hangover. I know which I prefer!

I get in to single figure mpg all the time but im surrouned by country roads which just want me to push on that nice big warp speed pedal but when i have been carefull on suburb driving with an ocasional boot full i got 14mpg but on the motorway back from rotorstock i got 25mpg.

I would so rather fill my car up than spend it on alcohol and have a hangover.
