Ha ha, join the club!
There\'s nothing like being hit on the back of the head by the hatch to spur you into action where those bloody struts are concerned.
This is the thread I started last time I got hit on the head. I haven\'t got round to having mine done yet but I will do.

Cheers Ian have emailed to see how long and at what cost hope to hear back asap.

Let me know please Mick cause I\'ve got 3 sets I\'d like regassing.... price permitting...
It hurts dose\'nt it,:Giggle
I once put a broom handle to hold up my tailgate, seemed secure enough, until i took the spare wheel out & knocked the handle!
Bosh, straight on the back of my head, was rubbing it for hours & swearing for days!
You\'ll be glad u get them regassed.
ta stu..

If the price is right, I\'d take a few struts up there. They aren\'t too far away from me and will regass while you wait.
If price ok,i\'ll get mine done, they hold tailgate up,but drop down about a quarter of the way,they\'ll give up eventually.

pretty cheap at twice the price £10.50 for regas per strut plus postage and packaging etc so not too bad
will be sending mine up there asap
Is that SGS charging £10.50 per strut?or another company?

That\'s an absolute bargain I reckon...
Genuine struts are no longer available and the imported items from the states have to be reversed and even then, don\'t accomodate the electrics.
I\'m gonna have a couple of set done, maybe even the 3 sets I\'ve got.
Nice one Mick!
Thats cheap.
Ian\'s on a roll, bargain leccy bullet mirrors & gas struts.
Ta stu..
yes yes and yes ;)
had mine done at least a couple of years now and there still great
Hi Guys, took up earlier suggestion re SGS Eng. Yes can confirm they still provide this service @ approx £10 plus p&p per item. They are based in Derby (DE21 6JL) and contact person is Sebastian Day - tel 0845 880 1255

:):)Hi Stu, must admit I never experieced this with my 1st rx7 and wouldn\'t really relish the thought of bashing my head in, this is why I am putting preventative maintenance in before I start using it.
Might be worth keeping a crash helmet for track days in the rear? Keep smiling mate. Cliff
For those who may be interested - I.ve just had my struts returned from re-gassing @ SGS Eng (£10.50 each plus postage and packing) took about a week turnround. Look good and appear to have the required force - will install during weekend and give final verdict. Rgds Cliff
Cool, look forward to see if their the right pressure.
Ur really cheating by being preventative & getting this done,it\'s part of the initiation into Fb ownership to get concussed,it\'s an event you\'d remember for many years!

Hi Stu - my 1st Fb never attacked me so I\'m hoping the 2nd will be as kind. Mind you my 1st was very temperamental in the morning and if she wasn\'t spoken to nicely would refuse to start - lost count the number of times I\'d asked my better half for a tow with her car. Cliff

Next on the list is when you walk into a public place after a drive and people asking you why you smell of exhaust fumes:3Confused
lol...........Thats my favourite aftershave your talking about...................
Be careful to keep the aftershave away from the lump on the head - likely to smart even more...... Cliff
Right....re-installed the re-gassed struts this evening.....guess what? They work....yippee! So remember guys - SGS Eng Derby... their the men! Cliff
Hi Cliff,
On a deadly serious note,my goldfish is the only beneficiary upon my death,so it\'s important that his inheritance is spent wisely.
1]At full lift, fully open, does the tailgate start dropping or stay fully open?
2]When u close the tailgate do the gas struts depress smoothly?
Sounds like a G8 deal.
ta stu..
Hi Stu - hope goldie is well, it\'s always our loved ones who gain in the long term.
To answer your questions:-
i) When the tailgate is open - its stays open with no indication of dropping - brain not been damage as yet!
ii) Yes they do operate smoothly.
I think it is a well worth exercise to have them re-gassed if yours are faulty. Cliff
Ok cheers cliff,i\'ll get mine done.
ta stu..
Hi Stu - went back to open the hatch the other night and guess what......yep it didn\'t stay open and nearly finished up with a walnut for a skull (only the offside strut). Have contacted company and they are to check and re-gas foc with a possibility of renewal - will keep you in the loop when complete. Cliff
well got the struts back and the little man and I fitted them keep checking them thou bit paranoid after what cliff has reported thou sgs did say if they fail within one month they will source replacements and discount the regas off them.
not a bad deal i think

what was the turnaround time Mick?
Quote from: Ian65;686062what was the turnaround time Mick?
sent them thursday last week doubt they arrived till tues and were done and back by thursday, £35.27 with one day courier delivery
i\'d say no more than a couple of days at most Ian
and the offer of using the cost of regas against new struts if they fail seems reasonable to me
Morning Ian & Mick, been off-line as my puter is not very well so have occassional use of my wifes. Sent my struts back Tuesday this week and now waiting for their return. Will hopefully finish this tale nxt week. Cliff
Maybe the strut seals failed.
Hi Stu. computer is sick so I\'m having to borrow the boss\'s. They regassed and were on test throughout last weekend -on Monday still ok! They will leave on test for a few more days so perhaps I might hear tomorrow? Cliff
just a little update the struts have had a bit of use each day and even been left up for long periods no problem so far 10 or so days
might get a second set done for spares
Hi guys - struts received today back from SGS. They seem a lot stiffer this time so I am hopeful and will fit this weekend. Cliff
Morning guys - couldn\'t wait till weekend so installed last night. 1st strut fitted and hatch stayed open on it\'s own - a good sign. 2nd fitted and OMG what a difference - as soon as the hatch is unlocked and lifted up 1 - 2" the hatch opens on its\' own (just like a bought one) so hopefully I wont be needing any nedical care in the future. SGS after sales service is good and would recommend them. Cliff
