Title: twin pipe designs anyone got any?
Post by: kiwi-mick on March 03, 2010, 08:36:10 PM
Hi all just wondering if anyone has design spec\'s for headers and twin pipes to collector over diff and into flange.
anyone got any idea on how much good a exhaust system would improve the 12a? 5hp maybe??
was looking to put a supertrapp 4" on the back so can adjust the flow depending on what the MOT testers say noise wise.
also it\'s been 15 years since i really worked on a rotor is there a guide to removing the air pump and what blanks you need.
this is the first one i\'ve seen with all original gear on it.(don\'t worry not going to modify it much just want to make the engine compartment less messy and clean componants up as i go slowly.
will keep everything and replace bearings and polish to a nice finish ready for when we sell this place and move into a property with some outbuildings and i can do a proper restore on my baby and maybe a series 1 (i\'m looking now if anyone knows of a solid shell out there)
cheers
mick

There\'s very few s1\'s left, dave will know approx, but i\'d guess less than 10 which are salvageable & that\'s being optimistic!
Can\'t help on exhaust, but the standard system does sap power,5 > 10hp is probably acheivable.

First off apologies if my grammer is bad but I\'m doing this off my phone!

Regarding Series 1\'s I know Tim @ RxMotors has a couple lurking about his place but I\'m not sure about whether they are for sale-always worth asking though.

Where the exhaust is concerned the janspeed was the most horsepower improving system over the stainless one-nearly 20hp on a 12a aparently! Whether or not they are still available I don\'t know. Can\'t answer the air pump question as mine already had all that removed but I\'m sure someone will assist!

You will need 2 steel blanks for the engine and there are a couple of pipes on the underside of the air filter box that need blanking. Easy to pull the air pump off but a couple of the thermal reactor bolts are a pig, when I did mine I bent a spanner to fit.
If you need any engine blanking plates let me know, I think Ive got some kicking around.
Keith.

up to 20hp gain from a janspeed exhaust, makes it worth doing, even 10hp would be good.

Hi Mick, Can\'t help with the exhaust once you go into specials (call me a boring bog-standard old git if you like), but I have got a couple of scanned-in guides which tell you how to fit a complete Janspeed or Double S replacement stainless system, taking off the air pump, the complete blanking off details and resetting the mixture all written up. I just need an e mail address for you; email me --- dgnock at btopenworld dot com or PM me with your e mail.

The black S1 rolling shell was given away by the seller to a friend. Sorry.

Don\'t know of any other RHD S1\'s available - The silver LHD seems more or less spoken for. I\'ll keep an eye out.

Yes, S1 but I think it\'s a basket case, sitting behind the guy\'s workshop for years. John Ewans, 07890440643

Getting rid of the power sapping US emission control crap that Mazda UK were too lazy to take off....

The difference between a standard emission equipment laden car and one fitted with a free flowing Janspeed system is like night and day.
Is the Janspeed still available???
I remember that they gave a real power increase, shot flame out of the back but were very noisy.

checked that out today don\'t make them anymore as far as i can tell. but i do remember that the 3\' freeflow with 2\' headers ,supertrapp at the rear makes a hell of a difference, i have a complete exhaust with headers which i am going to copy the bends and pipework and import the trapp from the states sounds wicked with the trapp on.

Janspeed was too loud for me.
I\'ve got a stainless full system on my car and it\'s fine. Lets the engine breath without loading the decibels

Ian, where did you get the stainless system?

My standard exhaust is well past it...Ive been looking for something cheap and quiet to replace it with for ages...

Thanks
