Hi guys, I am looking around at upgraded clutches that I will need next year on the rebuild to fit the T88.
What sorts of torque figures are high power 13bs putting out as the torque figure is more important than the BHP rating, some clutches like the ORC 709 series can handle 650ps which is probably enough, but if the torque figure is lower on high power 13bs I won\'t need to go so extreme.
Can anyone help with what clutches they are running? I am thinking a carbon double. Liam has offered a ORC carbon pro single 409 series, but thats only rated to 400ps (380bhp) which I guess won\'t be good enough to hold the torque from the T88.
Can someone stear me in the right direction.
ps isn\'t a measure of torque dude, it\'s power.
You aren\'t going to be able to skimp on a clutch for that power - twin plate at least, something like an Exedy Hyper twin Carbon at least, or a Giken.
How much are you looking to spend, I bought myself an Exxedy Hyper Twin plate carbon clutch and it\'s ace, relativly light and has great feel plus they last ages.
It was quite pricey though as most of the carbon clutches are, and it has some strange attributes if you want to use it for drag racing you have to slip it to warm it up.

I know PS is power :rollin is what Japan use for their power figures, which is why I was asking about what torque figures a 13b produces.
I definatly think twin, probably triple clutch, would you suggest lightened flywheel as well?

Wasn\'t sure on what price, I might get a used clutch and just get a replacement disk if its shot, I know its cheaper to get one £1200 clutch than it is to buy four £500 clutches as they burn through :rollin false economy lol
I will be running my T88 at 1.2 bar, extended streetport, so I am not sure what power that will make yet lol
go for a giken twin with flywheel etc get the larger diameter plate one if you can, the whole kit is circa £1400 with push pull convertor so no more long screwdriver antics
Most of the uprated twin plate clutches that hold that sort of power and torque will come with a new fly :)
~Be wary of people selling clutches that no-one else seems to have run, with wild claims.

Its ok, I will be going with either:
OS Geiken
ORC
Exedy (not the fake sort lol)
F1 racing (I am getting one of these for my stock turboed engine, its a hybrid paddel/organic clutch that prof has used, it held 6psi of boost and 4,500 rpm on 5mm of flywheel material as prof\'s flywheel was lipped)
Just need to get a decent one for the T88 powered engine :) anyone know how much the engine will produce all being well/mapped correctly? Apparently on stock ports it will be at about 450, extended streetports will be about 600-650ish but I don\'t know lol its not as powerful as the 900bhp FC there is :D
pointless running a triple, more designed for drag racing, iih you wont max out a twin with a t88
I\'ve had a six puck copper ceramic before and anhiliated it in 17k miles (down to the rivets). Carbon clutches are ace because they weigh very little and can have very small diameters allowing further inertia reduction for the engine (revs rise and drop more quickly).
Triple plates allow even more power transfer as you are progressively spinning tree plates rather than two and aren\'t jusyt drag tools, they weigh a little more than twins though and require more pedal pressure also reducing clutch feel.
OS Giken - Have used a twin metal plate was good a bit of a harsh short bite and a little noisy.
ORC - have never used but it\'s a favourite of JGTC and D1GP drivers so can\'t be bad!
Exxedy - Used a single organic and Twin Plate Carbon both good actually prefered the carbon twin over the uprated organic. The carbon is a bit weird as you have to warm it up (30 seconds at 2/3rds max rpm sounds harsh I know) so it slips when you put the power down occasionally if it is cold.
mitch depends what you are going to use the car for ie a carbon clutch is not ideal for drag racing as they require warming up to function properly
Ask sleepyhead for a ride in his MX5 - it\'s an OS Giken twin - very on/off clutch but handles the power well. Not really a good street clutch - but would suit your style of driving ;)
Just put some money towards stronger diff mounts and other powertrain components - coz they are next in line to take the punishment ;):spank
I found my OS Giken clutches quite streetable compared to the single plate 6 puck clutches.

you mention 600-650bhp, are you planning on running racegas or lots of water? as you wont see what power with 1.2bar, more likely 550bhp

seconded :god
ORC is a good clutch :)
Like others have said os giken twin plate ftw:Thumbsup!

I will be running WI, im really not sure at what power the engine will have, but with all my things I have putting on my car, injectors, turbo, ignition etc etc its all uprated higher than it needs to be to add a bigger safety net.
Where can I get a twin plate OS Giken clutch from? I am guessing it comes with a flywheel as well?
This about right?

There aren\'t any prices lol how much is a twin plate direct from the supplier?

They are the uk supplier. I think mine was about £1200 last year
I know of one going on sale soon second hand, he is just waiting to remove it to inspect the wear so watch the for sale section.
I have a mazdaspeed twin plate when i get around to changing mine too but it will prob need new plates.

really? who has told you this? :guinness
Probably the question isn\'t whether extended street ports could achive 600-650, but if that power figure could be had for 1.2 Bar of boost (after all there\'s evidence of cars running 800+ bhp with stock porting - just at silly boost figures) :guinness
and NOT on gasoline :)
yip they are running these large HP figures in the US on stock ports with monster boost and E85.
+1 on OS Giken clutches, a lot of US boys use Tilton Clutches
Ive heard very good things about the Carbonetics clutches. Gary at rotaryart sells em Me olde chum :)
