I am trying to make redundant all power going to the solenoids which dont exist in my engine bay anymore. the wires are cut at the moment but still live, what is the easiest way of doing this in situ. I have attached diagrams of what i wires i believe i can cut at the ecu. But is there a better wire to cut to stop power to these redundant items like nearer the egi relay. I also dont have a air pump. Id ideally like to cut an cap one wire. See attached the wires i have worked out i can cut (not the red one though) If not i will just cout teh ones marked in different colors.
any relevant advice to this query would be appreciated.:Typing
In situ?
Seriously, don\'t bother - it\'s a PITA.
Rip the loom out, trace all wires back to the plug, and pull them.
There are a heap of earths that need chopping and covering as well, that are hidden under all the tape.
I cant upload the photos here, ill post em at 6pm, arghhh technology sucks :Grrr
I mean at the ecu. There is a wire for each one and i can read the diagram and trace them back here. I will post the pic later. If im correct i will snip these. The way it is now I am afraid of a short circuit if these wires touch at the mo so i want to snip them at source. if anyone has the electrical manual the wires at the ecu im talking about are..........
B/R (EM) 4F
G/O (EM) 3K
L (EM) 3N
L/O (EM) 4M
Y/R (EM) 3P
L/R (EM) 4N
L/Y (EM) 40
At the ECU.
I will sleep easy when i know theres no current going through these.
All the best

Stripepd of loom tape so I could access the wires:

I know you\'re talking about snipping at the plug end, but imho, if it\'s worth doing, it\'s worth doing properly. Should only take an hour or so to remove the ahrness, then a few hours to strip down and just chase all the wires back.
Looks ace Sih.
I fully intend to do that on my next engine/setup, I dont have the time for this at the moment and im doing a trackday on Sat, other works more of a priority. NOISE/SUMP LEAK/TRACKING/BRAKES?FUEL PUMP REWIRE.
Here are the attachments anyway. Please take a looksy. It will be alot easier to cap wires at the ecu than in the bay.
Im intending to cut the Smaller circled colorued wires at the ecu.
The plug end is already snipped.
Hello is there anybody there?
i read wiring diagrams all the time for my job. not for cars but i can normally get to grips with them if you need a hand?
Well what do you think of the one on the left attached? I can clip the wires i coloured on the ecu plugs yeah?
From memory, the problem is the power and earth for the solenoids are tied in to other sytems. If you snip them at the ecu without tracing them back you run the risk of cutting power to something you\'re still using. Easiest way if you\'re in a rush is to take off the uim and tape up the ends of the wires you\'ve already cut. Once the trackday is out of the way then pull the loom and do it properly.
Steve
Cheers steve,
The thing is if you look at the wiring diagram, the wires at the ecu are not connected to anything.
I mean "not connected to anything else but that circuit"
The signal wires don\'t, no, but the common feed (the B/W wire) is the one you\'ll have a problem with. I think it supplies at least the idle control solenoid as well, plus the purge solenoid if you\'re still running that. Might even supply double throttle too.
edit: re-reading what you wrote above. The smaller circled wires are earthed by the ecu to turn the solenoid on so you don\'t need to worry about 12v running through them. The B/W carries the 12v positive.

yeah Ste id like to cut the thick bw wire but, i know it runs other things. im not running the double throttle or the purge, but i do run the idle control. also the wires i cut are close together in the loom and if they are bridged they will spark and melt something.
hmmm, i only have tomorrow. i best get cracking
Thinking about it, i might just try and single out the bw wire where i have cut it and make sure its poperly capped for now if thats the juicy wire. should stop any potential problem for now.
