Title: Air tools
Post by: Aubec on February 28, 2010, 10:00:21 PM
Hi guys, toying with buying a compressor and some air tools.

Main things I want to be able to do are run:
impact wrench, 3/8 drive should be enough.
cleaning/sanding/polishing - just individual parts so probably in a small cabinet
cutting/grinding

I imagine these would be the most intensive tasks, spraying, inflating etc. presumably needs less pressure/flow?

So, my question is, what sort of kit do I need to buy to cope with that kind of work?

Buy the biggest tank you can afford. I\'ve got a 50lt tank and it empties very quickly and has to be topped up. I have a Hitachi 3hp one from Ebay and have been very happy with it bar wishing the tank was bigger.

I have mainly machine mart air tools and they seem to do a good job for the price.

As Shaun said bigger is better. If spraying as the new hvp guns need plenty of clean air so look at a water trap as well. Tools wise "universal air tools" are very good at reasonable prices, theres also lots of good quality second hand kit on ebay

The main piece of advice when buying new tools is to buy the cheapest you can get of everything, then when something breaks you know you need a more expensive one, this way you don\'t spend a fortune on outlay on certains tools that you won\'t wear out/use to its full potential :)

mate not having a dig but that is pretty rubbish, i would always advise spend as much as you can when it comes to tools you get what you pay for. You buy cheap, you buy twice.

i wouldnt even think about getting spray guns with just an air line you need a lot more to have good spray paint set up other wise moisture can mess up any job i use to use a lot of clarke stuff not cheap not the most exspensive but does the job

yep deffinately get the biggest tank you can buy. snap-on only do lifetime warranty on certian tools, air tools usually only has around 12months. then again if you are on good term with you snap-on man..........i have several things replaced, that are out of warranty for free. then again i have nearly spent 3-4k on tools with him..........:2eek

i suggest buying one set of the cheapest air tools and one set of the most expensive. buy a bottle of absynth then you and a mate do a robot wars style war with them.

seriously though, anything you buy new that has a 12 month warranty. doesnt........

Under EU legislation and we are in the EU. all goods have a 24 month warranty. Good for toasters etc.
