Title: Mazda \'99 spec OEM style bumper without the plate bit
Post by: VishalStar on February 27, 2010, 03:20:02 PM
Hi guys,

Anyone have any ideas on where to source a replica of the FD3S \'99 spec front bumper but without the rubbish looking number plate bit at the front? Im sure someone out there must manufacture them.

Im sure I remember reading about this somewhere on here but couldnt find anything through the search.

Cheers

PM Clive maybe ? He had one on his FD (albeit about 10 years ago) think his was custom made but I guess he could point you in the right direction.

Im pretty sure Clives was a original which was modified and flushed.

I have a plateless 99 Spec which im going to use to have moulded and replicated in a flexi frp.  Im just in the process or sourcing a nice front splitter that will be able to go with it for a full front conversion.  Hope to have something available later in the year if there is enough interest.

Martin

Thanks for the replies guys.

Martin, let me know how you get on with the moulding/replicas as this could be very interesting. Especially if the flexi frp fits well. Ive seen some of the shine auto stuff and it is very good material.

There\'s a company on RX7Club.com who do them, but if Martin starts them it\'d take a whole lot of hassle out of it.

Thanks Rob, I have a spare in stock at the moment, but I was looking at getting hold of one of these from Japan.

Gives the front a little more aggression without being too ott.

Opinions welcome :)

That look really nice its just a shame about the number plate mount. Martin can\'t remember but did you have a thread running looking for interest in a 99 spec without the number plate???? can\'t find it any more.

Is that the AutoExe Martin if so, love that lip

I\'d love to go plateless with my 99 spec, but I stupidly didn\'t thinka bout it when I was having it resprayed :o
I guess you need a good bodywork person to make a decent job of it too.

That picture was just to show the splitter, the bumper I have is a plateless frp which I will get copied.  I have a pic of it somewhere...

The splitter is the Uras GT, very similar to the Autoexe.

The plan is to have a frp and carbon option available of the splitter :)

When do you think these might be available end of the year or something like that?

I agree the splitter along with the plateless look adds some elegant aggression to the front of the car. Definately interested in this if it can be done.

Your right Si, most of the Uras parts look gash!

The consensus seems good so I will get a splitter ordered.

Marcus, yes I would hope to have these ready well before the end of the year.

It does look good without the number plate mount :)

Sometimes I look at the mount, and think "Ugh!", but othertimes it\'s quite grown on me ;)

Be careful with the modding though... the slot on the number plate mount is functional! It\'s designed to get more cool air to intercooler, and prevent it from sucking hot air drawn back through the radiator from the engine bay...

I\'m not sure if I like that or the AutoExe one more tbh.
I\'m not sure I like the way that the Uras one kicks up in the centre - it\'s a bit Vileside fish-face :(

I *love* the Autoexe one

Nice one I will most likely be in the market for one at the end of the year.

ok i know they look very good plateless ,and on a trackcar you dont need the plate holder, but on a road car you do so why remove it?, where are you gonna put your plate? to the side of the front hole- looks even cacker than an original imo
And as said the hole behing the plate is the for a reason- to aid cooling, something that is more important on these cars than most cars-yet you wanna get rid of it???

martin can you get both the uras splitter and auto exe?prices please

Autoexe one is £500 in Japan on the current exchange rate, so that will have to wait for now!

I think the plateless 99 spec nose looks great and I am posting on here so that I can see how this thread developes.

I was after a 99 spec nose before but the wart on the front of the OEM just put me off.

Regarding a number plate, I would put a smaller one in the same position as OEM raised up slightly on spacers so that you could feed air underneath and direct it to the intercooler.

Nice package Martin with the splitter, which would look good in carbon fibre.
