Title: Speedline discs/Hawk pads
Post by: d6277n on February 26, 2010, 10:06:42 PM
Quick heads up - bought the Speedline Imports grooved discs for my FD, along with the MRP track/fast road Hawk pad combination. I\'ve already said that they\'re great on the road, but I finally got a chance to try them on track today. All I can say is they were great. I did about 90 miles on track, with repeated HARD breaking from 110mph. Absolutely no fade and excellent feel and stopping power. Still got plenty of pad left too. Well recommended, and not much different in price to the stock pads/discs.

Cheers,

Chris.

Nice to hear some feedback, thank you Chris.

A full set of discs is currently £260 delivered, drilled, grooved or combo are all the same price.

Cheers,
Martin

Agreed with above, got the drilled and grooved discs from Martin and the Hawk HPS pads from Clive.

Stops now like someone has thrown an anchor!! Fully recommend a set of braided hoses as well though. You can def tell the difference!

Depends what you want \'em for.

I got these for road use (and maybe the odd trackday or two).

The braided lines make a world of difference matey!

New discs, pads and lines are a piece of p!ss to fit!! Admittedly I got Goodridge ones but I assume they are the same idea. Took me about 6hours over 2 days to do all four corners. But be warned about getting the front discs off - the locating studs called for an impact driver and what is known in trade circles as "a big hammer" :p

Cheers bud and that is what I\'m thinking / why asking ?! ..... ;)

Predominantly for the road and hopefully for the odd track session I suppose....

Ideally a response from Chris ( top post ) as he said they were great on the road and now can confirm good on track!

So Chris, which one\'s did you go for bud... please?! ;)

Trotters link or mine?

Thanks Phil

Hi Phil,

I\'ve just checked the invoice and they\'re listed as "MRP Developed Track Day Hawk Brake Pads," price was £177.90 in August last year. From the links posted above, it looks like Clive might have changed them slightly to a Hawk/Ferodo combination rather than the two different compound Hawk pads that I\'ve got - would be interesting if Clive could comment on what is offered now. PM him if he doesn\'t spot this.

I had concerns about stopping from cold during road driving, but Clive assured me they would be ok. Unless they\'re actually the same pads with a different branding, I can\'t comment on the Ferodo/Hawk combination, but the Hawks are just fine from cold. IMHO they\'re significantly better than the standard set-up.

After killing my brakes on track, I needed a set-up which could cope with trackday abuse without breaking the bank. I thought about a big brake kit but it was too much and I\'d need to replace my stock 16" wheels, which I like. General advice seemed to be that I\'d go through a new set of stock discs and pads in a day with hard use. However, I only do a few track days a year versus 4-5000 road miles, so I needed brakes that were safe when cold. These ones seem to be spot on :Thumbs-up

I don\'t have braided lines yet, will see if I need them after a couple more track days.

Chris.

A vote for Hawk HP+ all round here, great pads.

I\'m going to get those grooved discs once I\'m convinced my boggo ones have no life left. Gonna get them lapped first though and get another season out of them :)

Fil - also take a look at Ferodo DS2500\'s. Dan at dbpower.co.uk can supply them - substantially cheaper at circa £100, and very, very good.
Nice cold bite, and very good for fast road and light track work as well :)

They\'re what I run, and I\'m more than happy with them :)
If it\'s just for road work I\'d also take a look at Project Mu NS/Street pads :)

Right then...

- discs from Martin ( grooved ) - pads ( from MRP ) Hawk track day stylee ( fine for road too ) HEL brake likes from another source, new 5.1 fluid, all fitted yest and I can safely report that they are pretty awesome and this is before they are properly bedded in! ;)

Look great behind the wheels too!

In addition I have a mater cylinder brake stopper to fit ... but thought I\'d bed in the new discs / pads first and then fit after a while to see what difference one can tell! ;)
