Prior to painting and fitting the idler arm to my project car I thought I\'d better check the bushes in it.
Took it apart to find that the top bush was split in 2 and the bottom bush was cracked...

What a crap design this steering setup is. These bushes haven\'t done many miles.
For a car that was so far ahead of it\'s time when launched, the steering is pretty poor.
Where\'s the best place to get some new ones from taking into account
quality
price
speed of delivery
???
Ian, how many miles had they done ? My steering seems vague most of the time, but I can not remember if it was always like that, then again the bushes could have gone on mine, but I thought that would have been picked up during the MOT
I don\'t know exactly but Keith told me that he had changed them, I think when he changed the steering box for the series 2 type to tighten up the steering.
He\'ll be able to tell us.
You would expect them to last years and years and for many many miles wouldn\'t you?
Yes I think you are right, but we do not know where Keith got the replacements from or the quality of them, or if the new set up could have effected them.
As far as I can remember I used a genuine bush kit, Its about ten years since I fitted the kit but less than 10k miles.
Fortunatly these bushes are only around a fiver each and they are the same for RX-3 and 4\'s and still avaliable from Mazda
Got mine from Rotechniks in 2002. Mazda bushes, dead easy fix.
Hi Ian
I had exactly the same problem with my steering idler replaced the bushes without a problem.
Used a company called Super Flex
www.superflex.co.uk (http://www.superflex.co.uk)
Part number was SPF1003K steering drag link bush kit
Cost £10.03 including postage and V.A.T
Hope this is of some help
Darran
Thanks Darran,
I\'m looking to get a full set of superpro poly\'s which include the idler arm bushes as well.
I think that these are basically the same as superflex.
cheers,
Ian
