hi ive read some threads on here to do not use the red halfords coolant and the coolant should contain ethylene glycol but the red halfords coolant i have contains this ethylene glycol and it staits especially recommended for use in aluminium engines im confused:confused::confused:
also do i add it mixed in to the filler neck or fill with water then add the coolant to the tank behind the head light.
bump i need to know as i got this stuff in at the moe
The answer is that it depends, read what is on the bottle, I would go for one that says it is on for aluminium engines as \'halfords red\' might be blue in colour next year, its only a dye they put in.
To top it up, top up the radiator using the water filler neck, is your car an FD or an FC, my FC has an expansion tank that needs to be inbetween low and full, the expansion tank is used to draw water in and out of the radiator as and when the water is needed, in my case drawing water in to replenish water that was leaking elsewhere!
There is a lot of confusion over coolant- as far as I can tell mostly due to the Americans using different colours to tell their coolant apart and people spouting recieved wisdom from the \'net about which ones are ok and which not.
That, and the manufacturers complicating things (VW for one) by introducing new colours to think about (purple)...
Halfords red is fine, as with all things rotary, change it often. :)
Totally agree as long as you change it once a year. If in doubt then go blue.
We have found that the Halfords 5 year is very good.
Often we have pulled engines apart with waterseal failure and they have blue coloured antifreeze in them. The green seems better.
Of course this does not mean that all blues are no good, just read the bottle.

Carl
thanks alot guys i stick with what i got then as it says its safe to use with aluiminium engines and contains eth -glycol stuff. :Thumbs-up:Thumbs-up
