Hi guys, id like to introduce my self, im Jadd, ive owned my fd for 3 yrs now, when i brought it it lasted 2 months before i needed the foreseeable engine rebuild so i took if off the road and saved up some pennys over a couple of years to begin my project.I had the car rebuilt in November 08 by Steve Rivett who also converted it from auto to manual and most importantly convert it from the stock twins to a huge HKS T51s single with all the supporting mods, whilst the rx7 was off the rd i owned a manual fto which i took to Shell Shocked in Devon who fitted a veilside kit and lambo doors for me, The quality was second to none so i was happy to take my rx7 there to see what they could do with the ideas that i had.
The wheels i wanted to fit were 13 inch wide on the rear with 335 tyres and 11 inchs on the front. The REA wide arch kit i had brought wasnt even close to covering the rims so alot of modification was needed. After becoming quite friendly with the Shell Shocked owner Richard Cash who has also owned a 550bhp rx7 which my engine modifications were modelled on i was offered a position within the company which i gladly excepted and now run one of his bodyshops in Newton Abbot.
Here are the pictures so far and i would be very gratefull if you could all give your honest opinion on what you think so far but pls bare in mind theres still alot that needs to be done.
Thanks jadd

335\'s on the rear!
Adam
Good to see another rx in devon:D
dude, that, is gunno be awesome
OMFG!!!! Mate that looks SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET so far!
Love the rear arches! they look so nice blended in to the body like that as it keeps the flowing line of the car! Not a fan of the wide arch kits that have visable joints to the stock body!
When are you hopeing to get it finished?? Would love to see this thing in the flesh on a sunny day!
Jono
looks hench lol! good work! only thing i think would make it look a bit nicer is it seems you have widened the top of the bumper but the bottom is still the same width... i would say maybe widen that to make it look a little less drawn in...
looking good....keep it up...its good to be different!!!

this is a perfect opertunity to graft in some opperational cannards with end fences, bringing the lower edge of the bumper out to the same width ;)
Think that would look pimp!
woooo that certainly has dish :mmmm
It\'s got a fatter arse than my Mrs\'s

we know this is an issue and widening the the mid section of the bumper is next ;) theres also carbon conards to be fitted to the bumper :)

One step ahead of ya, got the conards but the bumper still needs to be extended.I have lots of other carbon goodies also :Thumbs-up
That looks superb! Excellent that you\'ve built it that wide properly, not just taken the easy way out with ridiculous camber to get the wheels in the arches. Not that you could camber out 355s very succesfully lol
could do with a lick of paint..........
Thumbs up :god
Keep the pictures coming!

+1 for dark colour btw.
+2 for dark, this thing will look evil in a very dark purple
the brown that they paint the new minis in
you need massive rear spats to prevent stone chipping :-D
Nice man, love the ambition and smooth design!
You are going to be taking moulds off the finished shapes creating grp/fibreglass pieces though right? You\'d be INSANE to have that amount of filler permanently on a car! It\'s bad enough on trailer queens, but on a car with any kind power thats going to be used its just crazy :)
Ridiculously heavy, prone to cracking, will fall apart if dinged, absorbs/retains moisture or solvents which come back months after painting to cause bubbling/sinkage(usually on nice hot days such as at shows!), and lots of other reasons why you shouldn\'t let all your hard work go to waste..
sorry you\'re already planning to do this.. kind of more sorry if you\'re not! ;D
we are looking into taking moulds before it gets paint but finding it quite difficult to get a local fibreglass specialist that is up to the task of producing quality moulds.
As for weight issues, we have so far used 25kg extra in flibreglass resin, and various polyester fillers. This doesnt take into account all the sanded/grinded product and at at estimate i would have thought there would be an aditional 17-20kg added to the car. Its not as much as you think as its not entirely filler! in the worst places there is upto around 10mm of procuct (in the corners of swage lines etc.) which is more that we would like but not too over teh top compared with fibreglass products
As a company we have put a couple of custom designs together like this (although before i became a member of the team) and they do show up a couple of cracks etc after a couple of yrs of abuse but no more than any other fibreglassed kit. The way we have built the kit is extremly stong, much more so than regular sheet metal panels as i have seen first hand after a customers car had an unfortunate collision with another vehicle during the icey xmas period. The relative damage from the kitted car was miniscule to say the least. lol
That\'s cool, its obvious you know what your doing, I guess I view filler as being slightly fragile (and tbh a pain in the ass if used in any quantity!). With moulds of course you have the prospect of reselling your hard work, or if you want to keep it exclusive then replacing/fixing the panels is relatively more straightforward and you could have a couple of demo cars.
Looking forward to updates on this anyway.
Any update on this? Looks awesome
hi guys, didnt get to much done this week, we had a customers bently in all week to concentrate on and you know what these bently owners are like ;) but i did manage to widen the front bumper so that we could still use the carbon connards which came with the kit so il post the pics up of that :) (http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp46/skillzrx7/rx7/IMG00064-20100302-1228.jpg)

Haha thats looks absolutely mental! :bandit looks wider than the japan GT cars..
Cant imagine trying to park it !! :flamed hehehehehehhehe
looking good :D
looks like you have quite a bit of room in the rear arch still as well
new pics soon guys, will be in primer by the end of the week if all goes well ;)
anybody know of a carbo bonnet for sale??
+3 dark color a nice black with a rich purple as a secondary.
My only concern would be the affect tyres that size had on the handling.
But holy hell is she gonna look evil :D
Been a whilst since I have updated my thread, I been spending many hours working on the car. Due to the custom nature of the entire thing, some of the updates might seem small however in working life they all been larger updates.
Last time I updated the thread I posted up some pictures of widerning the front bumper. Since then I have finished this and smothed all the fixing lines into the bumper so you cant tell any diffrence. I also decided that the archs didn\'t look right and also I wanted to modified them to stop any protentail rubbing with those epic wheels of mine. So I had to build the archs out and then refibre glass everything to make sure its all water tight and strong. Couple of pictures of that:

I have also spent a lot of time smoothing all the front and rear archs into the exsiting bodypanels, these small details will help the kit look as if part of the panel. All the swag lines will mimick the fixing points on the standard RX7 again giving it a slight OEM look.

As you can see the archs are looking more as they should now! This gives me plenty of space to still heavily accelerate my car without scrubbing.
The next thing I did was to re locate my filler fuel cap as well as start to build my new roll cage. At Shell Shocked we now have the abailty to have part/full cages as well as other more extream metal work conducted in house. This roll cage is for show purposes only, however does have enough strength to take the weight of the car, however without me wanted to test this I cant guarantee. All the fuel cap was made up from scratch as well:

I also decided that due to the trouble I was having fixing the bumper I was going to smooth the front bumper into the wings, and I\'m so glad I did as not only is it 100 times stronger but I thinks looks miles better on the car too.

Brackets for roll cage:

The main reason for the delay in the update is our time has been taken up by the other large project we have in at the moment, which is a wide arch amuse S2000! When you have this baby to work on as well as 10+ other private, insurance and trader customers cars in during the week it can be tricky!

progress has been slow again due to a wide arch s2k taking precidence. Anyway, after priming it i decided to do a few other little bits. I have now smoothed the lock ouf of the back along with the two smaller vents in the front bumper (leaving just the main 3). Ive opefully it should have some colour on it next week
