Title: battery drain
Post by: DC-TYPER on February 21, 2010, 09:22:36 AM
hi folks

my 93 fd is draining its battery.  the battery is new.  i few weeks ago i jumped the car and a fuse popped, so i replaced all the fuses.  car runs great but keeps draining the battery.  i have noticed that the blowers in the car dont work either, could they be linked?  when i push the a/c button the battery light comes on too!

any ideas where to look 1st?

might be worth checking that your alternator is charging correctly

get a meter and stick it on the battery - should see about 12.7 volts , start the car and you should see it raise to say 13.6

it the car is running and you see the same voltage - i would assume your alternator is not charging the battery  - hence you are draining it all the time ;)

I\'ve got a Concept 650 and had no problems with it at all, other than the indicator flasher function went FUBAR. It\'s (touch wood) never drained the battery except when I left the car for three months and was too stupid to disconnect the battery :o

I\'d have to say the alarm would be the obvious suspect here though, unless you have a turbo timer that\'s gone a bit mutant? Like, set it\'s countdown to 999 minutes or something eccentric like that and is so leaving the car "live" for ages?

I was gonna post this a few days ago and then my iphone went dead and then forgot. try putting a meter to any +12v supply then pull out fuses one at a time and see if the voltage rises, if it does find out what it goes to and resolve problem.
