Title: 1/4 of a tank drama\'s
Post by: RXSpeedy on February 20, 2010, 06:19:18 PM
As the title says, in a carpark with a slight incline went to buy a few things for work. Came back to the car tried to start and only just started after 10 secs or so of cranking, kept the revs up until i was on flat ground. As a rule i always fill up if i get to 1/4 of a tank i was actually on my way to a petrol station but after id picked up a few things. Moral of the story is.... don\'t park on a hill with 1/4 of a tank my heart was in my mouth :o

If the problem was the fuel pump not picking up fuel, how would cranking it longer help?  Its either sucking fuel or sucking air surely?

My drive is sloped, and the car will start fine with the needle in the red and the light on, whichever way the car is facing...

That\'s what i thought at first but its never happened before and starts fine now there\'s a full tank of fuel in there. Needless to say i\'ll be keeping an eye on it.

or if you have an aftermarket pump with a filter sock on it, either its the wrong sock or the pump isnt fitted propperly meaning the pickup is too high off the bottom of the tank to get fuel...
