how come everyone only runs 8" on the front, i would have thought instead of going 20mm out by different offset you would use that space and run 9"

most people still have inner arches toast and still want to keep them so 8" are arch friendly :Laugh

Ed - pics or it didnt happen :P

Alex - rota D1s will look absolutely rubbish on your car. in fact im struggling to think of a car which rota d1s look good on (well good enough to justify their price tag). also youve got wide arches...run a proper width and offset...9j et30 dont cut it. You want something like 10.5j et20 on the back and 10j et25 up front (or 9j et18ish).

*runs and hides from anyone running d1s*
Title: rota d1 wheels
Post by: MaLicE on February 18, 2010, 03:52:33 AM
yeh alex you have wide arches front and back, do not run 8\'s!!! on my 200 i was running 9.5\'s front and back et 15! stock fd arches ok i can understand running 8\'s on the front but your running wider feed arches! if you go staggered on rota\'s that means you get a gay smaller lip on the front...

and i have to say d1\'s would RUIN your car! and the story\'s about rota\'s quality control are true! there have been pleanty of people with them that just shatter or crack easy! there was a guy running rotas on a 300bhp civic, he went to the ring and driving round that the wheels on the front distorted so much the spokes twisted and bent out meaning his brake calipers then clipped the inside of the spokes!

ronal teddy\'s would be better than rota d1\'s on your car alex lol! rota just rip off other manufacturers and copy designs! its like a girl having fake shoes and handbag! it just looks ....! some fake things are good in life like boobs... they are good... fake wheels are not! putting another set of rotas on your car would be like wearing an armarni suit and wearing a fake casio watch lol!

Dude, these will be jsut as crap fitment as the 8.5j GTR\'s you are currntly running. Plus theyare fake split rims...

Quote from: MaLicE;673264and the story\'s about rota\'s quality control are true! there have been pleanty of people with them that just shatter or crack easy! there was a guy running rotas on a 300bhp civic, he went to the ring and driving round that the wheels on the front distorted so much the spokes twisted and bent out meaning his brake calipers then clipped the inside of the spokes!
Sorry dude, but that\'s utter, utter ........ - I haven\'t seen a single Rota \'story\' that\'s actually true - the one you mention above? Yeah, that\'ll be the one where the guy didn\'t check brake clearance, and didn\'t notice that his caliper was scrubbing the inside of the spokes then ;)

There is nothing wrong with the quality of Rota wheels - they are well made and prety good weights. Hence their success The only problem is the fact that they keep ripping off other people\'s designs, and every fcuker has them.

as stated in the first post im not putting them on mine ill sell them and buy something different if i do have them in my posession . i agree i want something a bit bigger and jap but you show me where i can buy four wheels and tyres that would work without spending 500 pound a corner

there were some tasty SP1\'s for sale on t\'other site recently; £800 (plus tyres obviously).

unfortunately, if you want manly wheels you have to wait for the second hand lottery or fork out for new! this is why i have crap wheels :(

225\'s front and 235 rear bud! yup 9.5 all round!
Title: rota d1 wheels
Post by: batman on February 18, 2010, 08:33:03 PM
is that 15 offset all round and doesnt the 225 and 235 mess up the abs ? ie sensors
Title: rota d1 wheels
Post by: MaLicE on February 18, 2010, 08:35:46 PM
why would it mess up the sensors? the tyres arent connected to the sensors lol! your running 9\'s on the back and 8\'s on the front atm... im guessing your running different width tyres... how is that any different lol?
Title: rota d1 wheels
Post by: batman on February 18, 2010, 08:39:14 PM
no malice go back to sleep he has 18s 9,5 all the way round and 225 on front and 235 on rear tyre size works on a percentage so a 235 tyre has slightly more travel than a 225 ? so the sensor front to back would be timing different
Title: rota d1 wheels
Post by: MaLicE on February 18, 2010, 08:45:46 PM
NO 225 is the width in mm i think the percentage is the profile size so a 225/40/18 the 40 is a percentage of the 225 wide...

manufacturers send cars out of the factory with different size wheels let alone tyres front to back, it has nothing to do with the abs! abs sensor works on the axel not front to back it works left to right, if the front left wheel is spinning and the one on the front right isnt then the abs kicks in to stop the wheels locking up... or of the fronts have both stopped but the rears move then it fires to stop locking up, it wont monitor the speeds front to back, as if it did that when you pull off and spin the wheels the abs would kick in...
Title: rota d1 wheels
Post by: ENVYD on February 18, 2010, 08:48:27 PM
its et12 17x9.5j all round in each corner mate! car drives, brakes handles mint as it should! granted with 9.5s up front its a lil harder to turn but nothing to bad!
Title: rota d1 wheels
Post by: ENVYD on February 18, 2010, 08:49:31 PM
yeah the profile/side wall is worked off a percentage
Title: rota d1 wheels
Post by: batman on February 18, 2010, 08:57:24 PM
your missing the point malice yes you can have different wheels but thats were the tyres need to be profiled the same like just and example not sure if its correct but a front with a 235 50 17 might have the same radius as a 225 40 18 then the radius would match due to the percentage of tyre covering up the inch difference . with envys car he has same 18 9.5 front and rear but he has a 225 on front and 235 on rear making the rear radius larger meaning the abs sensor would see the rear turning slower than the front thinking its either skiding or fooked . so i was asking if the abs still works or is this such a small difference that the abs ignores the fualt ?
Title: rota d1 wheels
Post by: MaLicE on February 18, 2010, 09:55:56 PM
but your missing my point, if the abs took notice of that, when you dump the clutch and spin wheels on a rx7 the rears are spinning and the fronts not moving or hardly moving then given your theory it would do the same... the abs works per axel and only under braking... it senses left to right not front to back.

the only time you need to concern yourself that the front and rear tyres have the same rolling circumference is if the car is 4wd because the difference puts strain on the transfer box.

for a rwd or fwd it makes no difference at all as malice says, now put some wide wheels on that car!!
Title: rota d1 wheels
Post by: batman on February 19, 2010, 09:14:08 AM
uhuh guys your wrong i had a modded audi a4 before the rex and i toyed with the idea of different rims and tyres and i changed the profile front to back and the abs went spastic it knew front to back left to right ..
of course malice when you accelerate and spin up the rears the abs isnt concerned because you arnt braking....... antilocking braking system "abs" ? but abs does work left to right front to back .other wise ice on the road would have to be uniform for the car to stop or the abs to work and  it doesnt so the abs can stop the wheels sliding and keep grip /traction to the ones that arnt .
and toasty yes  the only reason you have to keep the tyre sizes correct on a 4x4 is because of the rolling radius other wise you d get axel spin up and the travel between radiuses wouldnt match and you can mash the box  .
i did a course on this and worked on braking systems for quiet some years  so i was confused as to why  envy s car ran  a larger rolling radius at the back but obviously the guy has no trouble and the stance is mint . so back on track d1  s who wants em lol
