Title: Turbo II boost
Post by: tsh on May 10, 2004, 04:20:42 PM
Got a bit of a boost control problem with my (stock, but no cat) TII. I was getting too much boost, and fuel cut or worse...

From the turbo compressor, theres a pipe which tees to the wastegate actuator and off to a solenoid. If I block off the connection to the solenoid, boost comes back under control (only about 5psi).

I guess the solenoid is used to prevent the wastegate opening too soon - anyone got any more info on exactly how?

Hi Sean,

5 PSI is to low. The boost should be at about 7 PSI for 180HP version and 8 PSI for 200 HP modell.

No cat means the boost will rise due to no backpressure from cat. Turbo will spool up  much faster the response will get much better, till overboost happens --> fuel cut.
Th solenoid control the actautor. The valve will open at about 2700 RPM, so you should be able to see the auctator movement at this RPM range.
